The Paul Levitz and Bob Rozakis caricatures in “The Story Behind the Story” were illustrated by MAD MAGAZINE's Dave Manak in 1976 -- originally created for THE AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS #13, in a feature titled “Inside the Amazing World”, which was essentially a rundown of the fanzine’s staff.

We were glad to back this. One of my mom's favorite books, illustrated by one of her favorite artists...

...but adapted by what used to be one of our favorite writers.

Although Gaiman would not receive any proceeds, we're still a bit... ambivalent about reading it.

At least we can enjoy the art.

Fun Fact: WEATHER WIZARD has been a TV star since 1978! He was one of the villains in the Legends of the Super-Heroes live action specials produced by Hanna Barbera. He was played by comedian Jeff Altman, whose other claim to fame was his co-starring role in the Krofft variety show Pink Lady…

Fun fact: In the lower surprint image of the Elastigirl entry, Rita is not climbing out of a mysterious "vehicle" but out of the ear of Robotman’s head, which was a scene from page 22 of the first Doom Patrol story in My Greatest Adventure #80.

Fun Fact: CLUEMASTER’s “logo” is from the lettering from the title of his first appearance story, “The Cluemaster’s Topsy-Turvy Crimes”, in Detective Comics v1 #351. It was on page 7 of that story when Robin exclaimed, “Man, that Cluemaster’s a walking utility belt!”
