Presumably you can already use this system to stalk your ex if you belong to a select population is disproportionately high DV rates. It's better if the data doesn't exist at all.

Don't forget that four of Schwarzenegger's five kids are too. And I'd be surprised if at least one of them is thinking about politics as their "destiny" or "calling".

(I apologise if my ramblings are excessive. Also I'm probably autistic, and my observations of human behaviour, while detailed, can miss important nuance.)

All hate isn't coded as bad. Hating child abusers, drug traffickers, murderers, terrorists is a positive. When Bin Laden was killed it made me uncomfortable to see the death of any human celebrated quite like that; it made me think of Mogadishu.

And you can code anyone as "acceptable to hate".

I believe this all told (certain) people that the racist and bigoted feelings that they tried to tamp down were normal. More than that, it said to them "you've tried this hard, where's your reward?"

Not all Americans are like this. But I feel I've always seen it bubbling below the surface.

From maybe the 1950s to the 2010s, (white) people being (appearing) less racist and more accepting was the key to being (perceived as) a good person.

Things like Fox, the Tea Party, GamerGate, Neoreaction, and Trump inverted that, said these things are positive. Covid played a part too.

It was late at night and I think my word choice was harsher than I intended. But I think Reagan and AIDS is a great example of that vein of American society. You always want to see that sort of callousness as an aberration, but it isn't.

I don't think it's really a veneer though.

I think the “we can all see” is a telling part of how (white) America sees itself.

Everyone else has always seen it. I remember thinking Americans were naive and trusting wrt their government and people in power. In 30 years I’ve gotten used to it, but never understood it

It’s always a surprise if someone with actual talent “rise[s] from the ranks of the aristocracy”.

I’m sure it will happen someday

(*And yeah, I know this isn’t how Wilde meant that line)

You’re supposed to open IMDB and memorize all the cast members before you start the episode

revolves around building name recognition, when you have to *lead* the nonprofit, or hold elected office, it’s not public service.

Not when you have enough money that you never have to worry.

The first step towards redemption is doing something for the good of others. If one of them took their privilege and built houses for Habitat, or worked as a pro-bono lawyer in immigration court (or eviction, or public defense), I might give them a chance.

When your “public service”…

Andrew Cuomo’s ex-wife is RFK’s daughter, so his daughters and Schlossberg would be second cousins.

I don’t think those exist here (and it would be psychologically challenging, much like a cleaner). Outsiders handling my clothes?!

Washing up isn’t the hard part for me, it’s emptying the drainboard or the dishwasher. Dishwashers are nice, now that I finally use them, but not life changing

And if we’re doing hereditary rulership, can’t we do it properly? Can’t he just defeat his mother’s cousin and take over HHS?

I can make decent espresso shots at home, but I can’t do it with any consistency. The worst part though is having to make coffee before you’ve *had* coffee

The “I’m not a misogynist if…” and “I’m not a racist if…” In a white supremacist world, a white person’s perception of Obama is always going to be influenced by racism. If you’re working on it, you’re not going to say “I’m not a racist”

Ditto transphobia

I think Iraq is a much better comparison. Iraq had something like 35 million people pre-war, and its land area is less than half that of Venezuela.

Noriega had nowhere to escape to. Maduro, on the other hand, rules a country that (to use American areal comparisons) 1.4x the size of Alaska.

So rather than having Optimus look over your shoulder, or even having a Neuralink implant, why doesn't he just push for Grok to scan all your financial transactions?
