Yes that is entirely the point.

Force user-pays on everybody so that the wealthy can have a nice society that the poor aren't able to participate in but have to prop up.
Rates caps may mean more expensive parking, libraries and pools, mayors say
Councils might consider raising fees for things like pools, recreation centres and other community facilities, Wellington mayor Andrew Little says.

My son is off school for 7 weeks at the end of this week.

Unfortunately I have brought him up to be so nonmaterialistic that he doesn’t want to do work for any amount of money.

He doesn’t even want a new computer and prefers to lounge around reading books, sleeping and learning Japanese 😭

Great to see a technical support service to help victims identify tech-enabled abuse.

Would be good if @stuff.co.nz had some mention of the country this is in (Australia!) somewhere in the article though! Was very confused as I thought it was a NZ based service.

This is video is a good example of the current state of AI-powered identity threat.

It’s made it through the uncanny valley and is now out, uncontrolled, on the other side.
Something insidious, possibly driven by AI, is infecting my Youtube offers.

Books are so under priced and under valued.

Think how little an ebook or a paperback costs, for all the hours of enjoyment you get even reading it once.

For the huge effort that goes into creating a story, the months of work by an author.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Was wondering if there was fungi lived in the sea last week.

Turns out that this has been extremely under-researched. But just recently water sampling in the Atlantic leads to an estimate of the global weight of fungi carbon to be 0.32 gigatons - which is a lot!
Check out our latest dispatch where we make a (very convincing ☺️) case that marine #mycology is the next big thing and highlight a recent paper by Breyer et al.

Marine fungi have biomass = 22 MILLION blue whales!

A Substacker named Ben Ryan tweeted that "the long-awaited UK puberty blocker clinical trial protocol is out."

Shortly thereafter he deleted the post. I can't find a public version of the protocol but here's what I was able to salvage from the screenshot + post.
