Here's a radical thought. Get rid of ALL of the regions and turn Super Rugby Cymru into a pro league.

ANYTHING to get out of the dire, pointless URC..
November 30, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Would the person who decided that playing an international against the world champions outside the regular slot so that Wales fielded largely a second string in order to bank a couple of million to pay the WRU to buy more hotels please put up their hand ?

Revenue at what cost ?
November 30, 2025 at 11:53 PM
The first thing that Welsh rugby needs to do is to remove itself from the Irish cabal that controls our rugby. The URC is pointless. Premier Sports is technically incompetent and their coverage of anything non Irish is laughable. Our first step to resurrection is to stop being an Irish rugby vassal.

That was Etsebeth's Zidance moment...

25,000 empty seats in the Millennium Stadium for the visit of the world champions. At an average £100, that's a loss of income of £2.5m. The WRU is in a pickle. #rugby #wales
November 29, 2025 at 5:00 PM
Wrexham FC has received £18m in grants from the Welsh Government. Welsh rugby, in total, has received £15.3 million in grants (plus £18m in loans). Discuss. #rugby #wales

67.6% of Welsh GDP is government expenditure. Wales basically has no business sector, it's just a sop depending on English money.

Watching an English fascist with proven racist views hold a rally in Wales a day after the local leader of his party had been jailed for over a decade for being a Russian operative is just beyond parody.
November 25, 2025 at 12:02 AM
In the absence of a British rugby union competition, which is what the game really needs, WRU should negotiate agreements with one or more English clubs to become 'hosts', eg Gloucester, Bath, Bristol, Sale, with agreement to release Welsh internationals for games and training.
November 23, 2025 at 9:52 PM
WRU should establish a coaching academy alongside a Welsh university where coaches from Wales and all over the world can obtain coaching qualifications.

This should aim to be the world's premier rugby union academy and directly work with Welsh rugby at all levels and look at head injuries, etc..
November 23, 2025 at 9:48 PM
WRU should run with £4m overheads and £6m rugby development costs and sell all peripheral investment such as hotels.
November 23, 2025 at 9:44 PM
WRU should ensure that there are budgets of at least £2m PA for all Super Rugby sides and sell TV rights for up to £2m for the UK and £500k internationally instead of giving them to the BBC.
November 23, 2025 at 9:42 PM
The WRU should be able to generate £10-15m a year of profits from non-rugby events at the Mill. Forget skywalks and stadium tours, 25% of Springsteen or Swift.
November 23, 2025 at 9:39 PM
It being Sunday, and me being bored I decided to delve into the funding for and by the WRU. Well, through a dark mirror.... They made a paltry £104m last year. But what they spent it on is opaque. £28.7m into the pro clubs (what a waste of money) and around £3m into other clubs.

World Rugby Right Now

Tier 1 - South Africa, England,
Tier 2 - France, Ireland, New Zealand, Argentina
Tier 3 - Scotland, Fiji, Italy, Australia
Tier 4 - Wales, Japan, Tonga, Samoa, Georgia
Tier 5 - USA, Canada, Samoa, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Hong Kong, Spain, Portugal, Namibia

If you want to see an extraordinary rugby game, watch the final World Cup qualifier between Belgium and Samoa on rugby pass TV (it's free!). Best game I have seen in years.

The top six have three one player teams - France (Dupont), Argentina (Carreras) and Scotland (Russell) #rugby

Wales are 4/5 for the wooden spoon in next year's Six Nations. A 20% return tax free is better than what you get at any bank! I'm betting my house...
November 16, 2025 at 3:49 PM
If rugby is the national sport of Georgia, how come their stadia are pretty much empty when they play at home ?

The worst thing about growing old is not knowing who anyone is on 'celebrity' shows
November 16, 2025 at 2:13 AM
The worst day of my life was Nantes 07 when Wales were destroyed by Fiji. Now I know that there are much worse days to come... Fiji have three times more registered rugby players than Wales. And most of them are better...

Can we put a time clock on endless TMO reviews ? Or just get rid of them ? I like to have time to make a cuppa between games...
November 15, 2025 at 10:20 PM
Great to see the drop goal coming back into the game as a winning tactic! #rugby
November 15, 2025 at 9:31 PM
So what should the Welsh regions be ? Ireland had its four fiefdoms and they segued nicely into rugby, even over national borders.

Wales has North Wales and South Wales. Otherwise we are highly parochial.

My controversial proposal would be to have Swansea, Cardiff and Wrexham (sorry Newport) .
