Meet Baron Sniffelton III, made out of deep stash yarns and stuffed with carding waste wool, loom ends and fabric scraps from sewing. The pattern is Poklon by @ysoldaknits.bsky.social and he was such a fun knit!
A reddish brown handknit sausage dog stuffed toy sitting in an autumnal garden. The dog has a long cute snout and brown eyes looking like the definition of ‘puppy dog eyes’ in the dictionary. His ears are huge and his short little legs and paws are almost completely covered by the long grass. You can just about see the tip of his little tail sticking out as his cute little butt is sitting in the grass. The grass is strewn with yellow leaves and the bush in the background has green and yellow leaves.

For #ShowMeYourKnits knitting horror stories let me present this hand-spun colourwork cowl which somehow hid between dirty clothes and ended up felted after a round in the washing machine. Made it into a small project bag eventually, after being furious for a while.
A fairisle type colourwork cowl with colourwork motives in grey, green, purple, orange, blue and red with white contrast colour and white ribbing. The slightly uneven and neppy hand spun yarn makes the colourwork quite subtle. The cowl is resting on a wood background with a sprig of small white flowers for decoration. The same colourwork cowl, now densly felted and sewn into a small project bag with a metal zipper for closure.

What’s on your needles for #ShowMeYourKnits. Severe castonitis, so too many WIPs to show all, but here’s a few including spinning and weaving wip for good measure. Herst baby cardigan, self drafted cable sweater, Lusk tee, cotton towel and handmade leftover rolags, more details in alt text #KnitSky
Hand knit all-over cabled brown baby cardigan still missing one sleeve. The cardigan has two different cable motifs alternating across the body and sleeves, with deep 1x1 ribbing in the hem, buttonband and sleeve cuffs. The cardigan is a grandpa style V-neck with a cosy shawl collar. The brown yarn is subtly tonal creating areas of lighter, more reddish brown bands alternating with a darker brown reflecting the colourway name Kaarna which is the finnish word for tree bark. The pattern is Herst Cardigan by Sarah Hatton and the yarn is Novita Nordic Wool from deep stash. The yoke and first few inches of the body of a dark grey all-over cabled fisherman-style sweater on a hanger with a red brick wall in the background. The whole sweater is filled with different cable motifs placed symmetrically around a central intricate cable with five strands of cables interlacing. There are no sleeves or neckline ribbing yet and the knitter, who has self drafted the pattern is a bit ambivalent about how to proceed as she is knitting the sweater for her partner and would like it to be a great fit. The yarn is Drops Karisma in shade 16 Dark Grey. The drop shoulder yoke and first few inches of the body of a stripy hand knit tee (although you can’t tell it’s a tee as there are no sleeves yet) on a hanger against the backdrop of a red brick wall. The tee is knit in Woolyknit linen-cotton yarn held double, with relatively narrow stripes in light beige and a deep navy blue which looks almost black in the picture. The navy blue has been used to create a ribbed neckband which frames the stripy sweater in a pleasant way, and the hem and sleeve ribbing will be done in dark blue also. The pattern is Lusk tee by Rebecca Clow. A teal and white checkered fabric on a rigid heddle loom placed on a table. There are shuttles with teal and white yarn on top of the fabric, waiting for the weaver to return to continue weavingbon the project which has been left unworked on for weeks. The yarn is Woolyknit 100% cotton. Also on top of the fabric is a beautiful handturned supported spindle in purpleheart and sycamore wood, with singles spun into a cop on the spindle shaft. The singles are a mix of wool and silks, in variegated colours with black and yellow being the main colours. The singles will eventually be plied with a second strand of yarn to create a soft sport-weight two ply yarn .

#showmeyourknits this week is stripes. This is my most recent FO, the Ilo dress by Anna Johanna, knit in handspun yarn from John Arbon Harvest Hues tops. It got finished in July, so I can’t wait for sweater weather so I get to wear it!
A striped hand knit long-sleeved dress in autumnal colours hanging from the branch of a fig tree with a backdrop of summer green fig leaves, a lawn consisting more of weeds than grass and peaks of a red brick wall contrasting against all the bright green. The knee length dress, knit in fingering weight handspun two-ply yarn, has seven broad stripes in yellows, oranges and purples, each stripe being a different colour and separated by thinner grey stripes. The ribbing around the hem, cuffs and V-neck is knit in the same grey for a cohesive look despite all the different colours. The stripes on the sleeves are in subtly different colours than the body suggestive of the knitter having run out of yarn when knitting the body and not having enough left for the sleeves, but luckily she had spun up more colours than she needed for the body of the dress. The dress also has two patch pockets on the front, approximately the size to comfortably hold a mobile phone.

Crossed the finish line of Tour de Fleece 2025. 6377m/2467g of finished yarn. 🧶 yarn details in alt text
Numerous hanks of yarn, some resting on top of a brick wall and some in a basket which is on top of the same brick wall. In the background a large hydrangea with pink, now slightly fading flowers which contrast against the bright green leaves. From left to right the yarns are: First a pile of seven fluffy dark brown skeins of three ply yarn, the natural, almost black, colour of zwartbles sheep. The yarn has been spun from a fleece that the spinner has processed herself from a raw fleece. Next a pile of six skeins of two ply multicoloured yarn in a unicorn barf colour. The yarn has been spun on a supported spindle and has white wool mixed with greens, pinks, purples, yellows and oranges setting it apart from all the other yarns in the picture. Last, to the right is a wicker basket filled with around twenty hanks of variable size, each skein a different colour. The wool has been dyed with a range of natural dyes before being spun into yarn. The biggest group of hanks are in a range of blues from light to dark denim blue dyed with indigo and woad. There are several skeins in shades of yellow and grellow dyed with calendula, onion skins, weld and fustic on a range of white, grey and brown wool bases. Last a range of orange and red skeins dyed with madder. There is also a turquoise skein dyed with indigo and calendula and a purple skein dyed with madder and then overdued with indigo.

All the finished yarn from the first two weeks of Tour de Fleece 2025 including home dyed indigo on home prepped Romney, home dyed madder on commercial corrie and shetland and the brown is home prepped zwartbles. Approx 3400m/1370g in total so far. So great to see so much spinning here on Bluesky!

In front of the blue skeins are five skeins of very dark brown yarn, in a natural sheep ccolour, spun from home prepped zwartbles fleece into a bouncy three-ply. Next to the brown skeins are four skeins of brightly multi-coloured yarn in colours including green, blue, orange, fuchsia and yellow spun on a supported spindle into a two-ply. In the front are three smaller skeins of yarn dyed with madder into three shades of red, the biggest skein being a bright vibrant madder red, another skein in a more burgudy colour achieved by dyeing on a grey base and finally a small skein of lighter, more orange red yarn.

First week of Tour de Fleece 2025 in the bag (or in the basket as it was) 1679m/607g of plied yarn (mostly 2-ply) and a unknown amount of singles. The blue is home prepped Romney, home dyed with indigo and wheel spun. The rainbow yarn is acid dyed leftovers blended with other stash, support spindled
A wicker basket filled with hanks of hand spun yarn and bobbins and plying balls of unplied singles still waiting to become yarn. The basket is perched on a brick wall in front of a pink hydrangea in bloom, the bright pink flowers starkly contrasting with the vivid green leaves of the plant. The basket contains 5 hanks and a mini skein of indigo blue yarn in three shades from light to medium to dark jeans blue. There is also two hanks of a rainbow coloured yarn. There basket also contains two bobbins of singles, one has two shades of deep madder red singles, one bright red and another more muted red as it has been dyed in the same madder dye bath but on a grey wool base rather than white and the other has dark brown singles, spun from a Zwartbles fleece. Two small plying balls of the rainbow coloured singles are nested snugly next to the bigger bobbins waiting for their turn to be plied. Finally two mini skeins of same yarn, one dark brown and one rainbow coloured plied with a strand of dark brown rest on top of the bigger hanks of yarn.

Phase 2 of Tour de Fleece 2025 prep done, drum carded batts of home processed Romney fleece from my first attempt of indigo dyeing. The aim is to spin them on my wheel into a woolen-ish sport weight two-ply.

The wool rolls look soft and have a halo of fibres suggesting they would be very soft to the touch and feel like you want to snuggle them.

Phase 1 of Tour de Fleece 2025 prep is completed. Should be more than enough for my supported spindle project 🤣Now on to pick indigo dyed Romney locks for carding for the planned wheel project. Other TdF:ers out there? How is prep going?

The rolags have been made on a blending board and consist of wool in a range of bright colours including yellow, orange, purple, green, turquoise and fuchia pink interspersed with white and they look like they will make a crazy rainbow coloured highly variegated yarn once spun up. For additional info, the coloured wool has been home dyed on light grey corredale commercial tops and the white wool is a mix of Southdown and Cotswold tops and some Oxford carded wool added in for good measure. The rolags are now patiently waiting to be spun up during Tour de Fleece 2025 on supported spindles and possibly being plied with a black single (to be spun in some distant future) for a fun two ply woolen yarn that could become a crazy colourful sweater , shawl or blanket one day.

A long sleeved hand-knit sweater, suspended on a hanger from a branch of a deep green leafed bay-tree. The sweater is sage green, like a watered down colour of the deeply rich green leaves of the bay tree. The round yoke of the sweater has a pattern of emerging triangles in a very light grey, almost looking like snow-topped mountains. At the bottom of the yoke against the light grey background is the main feature of the sweater, a row of cute bear faces in the main green colour of the seweater.

Had to do a bit if digging to find a CHONKY knit to play along with #ShowMeYourKnits this week but found one from a few years ago - my Offering of Trees by Melody Hoffman made in 3 strands of Nutiden, modded into a cardigan. #knitsky 🧶
A long sleeved, hand-knit multicoloured chunky wool cardigan on a hanger against a backdrop of the greenery of a very unkempt garden bathing in the soft light of an early summer evening. The cardigan has a marbled appearance from having been knit with two strands of an off-white held with a colour changing third strand of soft fluffy unspun Nutiden yarn. The colours change from yellows and oranges to reds and greens in relatively wide bands. The feature of the otherwise plain cardigan is the elongated stitches around the raglan lines, looking like the tops of trees. The buttons of the cardigan are large and round with delicate floral patterns in colours similar to the cardigan.

As #ShowMeYourKnits 🧶 this week is socks 🧦 and yesterday was #RareDiseaseDay , a pair of socks in the rare disease colours. There are over 6000 rare diseases, most of them of genetic origin and with onset in childhood. Over 300M people in the world are estimated to live with a rare disease.

Finished a (almost entirely) handspun Heirloom Quilt Cardigan. It has eaten over 900g of various handspun leftovers including some very early (rather inconsistent) spindle spun yarns. I think it has about 50 differt fibers, mostly sheep wools but also camelids, plant fibres and silks. #knitsky 🧶
A long sleeved hand-knitted cardigan mounted on a hanger in a garden, suspended from a wintery leafless apple tree branch. The cardigan front panels look like quilted blocks with 8-point stars. Each fron consists of 8 squares, in two panels of four squares each. The blocks are undyed natural wool colours in shades of brown, black, grey and beige, with the star motifs in contrasting undyed colours . Some of the squares look marbled caused by two yarns of slightly different colours being held together. The sleeves, bottom ribbing and wide, buttonless, double knit button bands are all in a light beige yarn, looking soft and fluffy due to the laceweight alpaca silk yarn held with the main yarn. The edges of the sleeve cuffs and bottom ribbing have a narrow strip of contrasting dark beige. From the way the fabric is draping,the cardigan looks like it’s a relatively heavy fabric and will keep its wearer nice and warm.

It’s WIPs for #ShowMeYourKnits this week. This is the Opula yoke by Marina Skua, knit in Marina’s hand dyed single flock Mendip yarn which is a dream to knit. I originally chose the wrong yarn, sent it to the basket of shame, totally frogged and re-knit to the current state. #knitsky 🧶

Since stripy socks 🧦 are so much fun and the #ShowMeYourKnits theme this week is stripes, a few pairs I made from various leftovers in the last few weeks of 2024 in an attempt to use up scraps. Most of the yarn is Novita 7 Veljestä, some that I have home dyed but mostly commercially dyed. #knitsky 🧶
A pair of mid-calf height handknit very colourful, DK weight, scrappy socks on a distressed old woodgrain background next to white orchid flowers. The socks have purple cuffs of 1-by-1 ribbing, then moving in single row stripes across the colour spectrum of purples, blues, greens yellows, a particularly loud bright orange for the heel, then slighly more muted striping for the foot in dark browns, teals, greens, reds, pinks, yellows and a purple and brown toe. A pair of striped, mid-calf height handknit woolen socks on a dark purple background next to pink small flowers. The socks have a two-by-two ribbing and heel in a variegated pinkinsh brown yarn and the leg and foot of the socks consists of stripes of various width in pink and purple yarns, each stripe separated by a thin stripe of same brown yarn used for the cuff, heel and the tip of the toe. Many of the pink and purple colourways are slightly variegated as they have been hand dyed. The socks look soft and squishy as they have been knit in a DK weight yarn. A pair of very colourful scrappy hand-knit wool socks on a dark purple background next to small pink flowers. The socks have dark grey 1-by-1 ribbing at the cuff with sock legs and feet striped in a range of colours mainly pinks, purples, blues and greys and bright almost fluorescent orange heels. The colours are in thin stipes giving the socks almost a rag-rug appearance. A pair of men’s hand-knit, mid-calf height wool socks on a distressed woodgrain background. The main colour of the socks is a warm brown like tree bark, and the cuff ribbing, heel and toe and all in the same brown yarn. The leg and foot of the sock is in stockinette stitch, and the brown yarn is striped with a self-striping yarn, shifting from white, green, red and yellow. The different colours alternate every round, giving thin stripes and a rag rug appearance.

More cables for #ShowMeYourKnits - my first finished garment of 2025 and first ever fleece to finished object. Pattern is Beechmast by Marina Skua. I spun the 3-ply yarn woolen-ish from hand-carded rolags. Fibre from a Fernhill Fibre Romney x Shetland lamb, dyed with madder. #handspun #knitsky 🧶
A orange long sleeved sweater on a hanger against a red brick wall. The colour of the yarn is slightly variegated with subtle lighter and darker orange sections as it has been hand dyed by an amateur dyer in a pot that was too small for the amout of yarn. The front of the sweater has a V shaped panel of moss stitch, looking like little pebbles, edged on both sides by a V shaped cable motif. At the top the moss stitch covers the middle half of the sweater slowly getting narrower until all the moss stitch is gone at the bottom. The sleeves are stockinette stitch without any features. All ribbing around sleeves, hem and the crew neck has two ridges of reverse stitches before a squishy soft knit two purl two ribbing. the prominent size of the stitches suggests that the yarn is quite thick, resulting in a warm sweater which will keep its wearer war and comfy.

A light beige V-neck long-sleeved cardigan on a hanger against a red brick wall. The cardigan has multiple different cables on the front panels and sleeves, intertwining and forming patterns like ropes and lattices. Towards the sides the cabel patterns are replaced by a lace pattern with holes in the shape of diamonds. The ribbing and button bands are a knit 2 purl 2 design, and the round driftwoodwood buttons on the cardigan are a similar light beige colour to the wool.

The coloured yarn is in different shades of green and teal, starting in darker forest green around the neck ribbing, and gradually fading to lighter greens, some blues and more yellow greens further down the yoke. The pattern looks like tree branches entangled together in almost a fractal-kind of structure. The sleeve cuffs and hem ribbing are also in shades of dark green and teal.

The shawl is knit in brioche stitch with ridges of knit stitches radiating from the spine of the shawl towards the edges making a squishy soft fabric. The colours run from green, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue and back to green and yellow, blending into each other as the colours chang. On the long edges of the shawl is a black and white icord edge.
