This just broke my brain. I didn't realize Porkins was an actor and I assumed he died trying to take down the Death Star.

If you're famous for something other than writing (or if you are well-known for writing something other than fiction), I think one of the most annoying things you can do is publish a novel with a major publisher.

But one of the funniest things you can do is publish a collection of poetry.

Seems like we were really cooking in 2006-2007. Here's my stupid list.

I find everything in this paragraph more annoying than the whole fabricated memoir business.

#Arsenal post: Thought this was really excellent. Clarified a lot of what I've seen watching LFC and AFC this year. Key difference in attack, for me, is in the screen shot. Thanks for the great work @billycarpy.bsky.social

This is an exceptional piece about the history, present, and future of Netflix. I think it's worth thinking about the way the streaming companies have tried to "disrupt" film by devaluing quality. The only way this works is if the viewers go along with it.

A small window into Eastern Idaho culture: This movie is playing at every theater in the area right now (we've got a nice little network of discount movie theaters, some of which have a pretty cool local history). The Bob Dylan biopic is only playing at the megaplex.

Book 12 of my 12 books of Christmas. The Founding Fish by John McPhee. A very cool book that covers the American shad, an oceangoing fish whose history is tied up in the history of North America (and a bunch of other stuff).

Book 11. The World-Ending Fire by Wendell Berry. This is a selection of Berry's non-fiction. He is a figure whom I was familiar with but hadn't read very much of prior to this book.

Book 10. There's Always This Year by Hanif Abdurraqib. I can't really describe this book other than to say it's exceptional. Really enjoyed this.

Book 9 of my 12 books of Christmas. Fourth of July Creek by Smith Henderson. This is a meaty novel that came out in 2014 to pretty strong reviews but has slipped off the radar (as books do). Its a kind of twin narrative set in the early 1980s centered on a Montana social worker trying ...
