We all have bad takes sometimes but that’s so egregious and he was criticized at the time and smug about it and doubled down he basically doesn’t get to weigh in on this stuff at all unless frames it through apology and reflection.

In terms of “wins” our party just came off big unifying election victories that made the timing of this particularly deflating to a degree that seems broadly out of sync with where our voters are at.

We can be turned off by some of the online hero worship and feasibility of certain policies and still recognize that the campaign against him and the very idea that he should be “feared” something leadership of our party should have broadly denounced. There was a moral imperative there imo.

The Mamdani thing isn’t entirely about the refusal to endorse (or Schumer’s low key Cuomo support) or even remotely a “bend that knee” demand.

On Gaza though I’m not sure every New York Dem has literally said their job “is to keep the left pro-Israel” . Given how Israel’s leadership wanted Trump back in charge that admission alone could be looked at by every Democratic voter as open betrayal against them.

I didn’t mention Gaza and you didn’t mention the shutdown. Do you think he’s actually opposed to a deal many suspect he actually helped orchestrate or is he lying to all of us about that?

I made a point of saying there’s strong likelihood the underlying problems/dynamic wouldn’t be changed but I identified certain things as transgressions that make this a necessity to rectify apart from that consideration.
November 11, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Are you coming from a place of not even really sharing the criticisms many of us have mentioned? I would make that clear. The latter point was analogous to one of the arguments against replacing Biden that I saw the most and still don’t share.

Not defending him against a racist campaign against him is disqualifying. Not properly treating Cuomo’s presence in the race given his past as unacceptable is disqualifying. These are transcendent failures that can’t be minimized.
November 11, 2025 at 7:18 PM
The Mamdani thing alone is unjustifiable. You just can’t be a party leader and go against the party’s voters like that and there is an overt dishonesty in his handling of the shutdown that is insulting.
November 11, 2025 at 7:15 PM
I cede that this is true and yet replacing him is still a necessity given the Mamdani thing and his dishonesty with the shutdown handling.

trump was couped is true but most people willing to believe that are fascists, not people who correctly think it was good and right. also pretending it didn’t happen is the ideal path to preserve civ mil relations whoops maybe we shouldn’t have preserved them
