I am a week away from my 1 year 4th reconstructive OHS. In honor I will be sharing a post a day regarding my personal CHD and reconstructive surgeries.

I had my first surgery to reconstruct my aorta via an L incision when I was 2 days old.

I was born with an interrupted aortic arch that collapsed when my PFO closed. I was also diagnosed at that time with an ASD and a VSD, as well as a bicuspid aortic valve. I had two follow up reconstructions on my ASD/VSD all done before 2003. I successfully welcomed a healthy baby in 2017. This pregnancy started my interest, as well as my struggles with my own CHD. I began my journey through school in hopes to become an ACHD P.A.. My journey was put on pause November 2023 to have my second aortic reconstruction with the placement of an artificial heart valve. A routine surgery on a complex congenital heart patient such as myself rarely goes routinely. I was on ECMO for 237mins while my surgical team unveiled a plethora of unidentified issues within my aorta as well as other areas of my complex heart. They successfully moved my coronary arteries, proceeded with the Bentall and placed a 25mm Edwards LifeSciences valve. Three months post op I developed Infective Endocarditis in my tissue valve. 3mm of growth on my leaflets. This is started my journey into Infectious Disease! 🦠
