Next rotation of the reading cycle is the ‘personal selection’ slot.
Recently I’ve been using this to work through the Malazan books, but this time I’m returning to Jemisin’s Great Cities series, with The World We Make. I’ve loved every Jemisin I’ve read, so excited for this one 🤩

From my Bluesky indies reading list - wrapped up Tru Skies’ Cruel Gods trilogy.
First half of The End of Time is an absolute banger, loved it, second half lost the pacing a bit but ended strongly. Very satisfying. Best book of the series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 - Cruel Gods is well worth checking out!

Returning to the World Fantasy winners: Soldier of Sidon (2007 winner) is the 3rd in Wolfe’s Latro series, the ancient adventures of a god-touched Roman with memory loss. Some great parts undermined by an unsatisfying ‘stop’ rather than an ending.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 - would’ve got 5 with any kind of conclusion.

Book 5 of Erikson’s epic Malazan series, Midnight Tides is a little curious - almost a stand-alone, new characters on a new continent with a different take on gods and magic - can’t wait for this thread to crash into our main body.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 - a very special series, so glad I eventually got to it!

Running a bit behind on posting my reads.
I really enjoyed the first of this series, so continued onto book 2.
Still fun - and definitely hornier!
Wonderful worldbuilding.
Cracking adventure.
Another solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 from me.
And🤞the trilogy gets a good finale!

I’ve been hankering to rewatch Sliders

Only a few more weeks until the puppy lands.
Ain’t she a beaut?
Still workshopping names.
My personal favourite is Strudel.

Next pick is from my Award Winners list - and I’m nearly done with the World Fantasy Award winners - so next up is our 1992 champ, Boy’s Life.
I’d never heard of this book before I started the WFA list, but it has a 4.37 average on Goodreads, which is kind of incredible!

Finished Red Side Story and it did not disappoint. Jasper Fforde’s blend of smart and silly charms me every time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

It took us 3 nights to watch the Royal Rumble on Netflix (women’s, matches, men’s) - first one I’ve seen since the 90s.
I was entertained!
I didn’t know who anyone was - even with loads of ‘hall of fame’ legends coming out for the streaming debut, but it was still fun!

My 2025 reading cycle is Award Winner -> Bluesky Indie -> Personal Pick.
My last book was a wonderful indie, so now we’re onto my next personal pick - Red Side Story.
I’ve been waiting YEARS for this sequel, and read the preceding book as my last personal pick to get back up speed. 😁

Finished The Thirteenth Hour by @trudieskies.bsky.social and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Overflowing with great ideas and carried by loveable underdogs.
Few rough edges, but an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 recommend from me.
Full review to follow.

Next up: The Thirteenth Hour by Trudie Skies @trudieskies.bsky.social
(For every third book I’m checking out an indie author I’ve discovered through Bluesky)
Looking forward to this one!

Another one ticked off the list ☑️
I started Vance’s Lyonesse trilogy because book 3 -this one- won a World Fantasy award.
It’s another ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 from me - plenty of good stuff, but also a large dollop of relief that I’m done with this series.

I’ve been introduced to the app game ‘Two Words with Susie Dent’ @susiedent.com and in my tutorial game with the bot I enjoyed this brief shag hole…

All done with my Shades of Grey reread, and I loved it just as much as ten years ago. Yes, it’s a bit slow to get going, but the sci-fi ideas nestled beneath the comedy of manors are glorious, and frankly I adore everything Fforde has ever written.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Made my kids watch Flight of the Navigator tonight and I’d forgotten it had Sarah Jessica Parker in it!
Also, a decent percentage of that movie is just him flying around lost.
The 80s were a simpler time.
