The judges had a crazy couple of rounds and sent home some really good artists. Last night was predictable. But given time, I think any of the final three have a good chance of a decent portrait.

Ah, the seasons gently turn. Nature prepares for Winter, hi-hats hibernate, keys bunker down, only the wild Sax can tough out the first chills of change. Soon there will be snow, it's time to rest. A natural order is restored, but be assured, these sleeping giants will rise again before Spring.

Hunched figures step from the dark onto the page, the house is blue yet tense with a feeling of verticality where brevity fights delicacy in moments of colour. The artist returns playfully with loose treatment of negative space and catches out the critic who needs to apologise for a tardy response.
