Learning to blend/layer hard brushes can also be super beneficial. It’s more akin to oil painting imo?

The weapons, cape, entire background, face, mane, and boots were all done using a hard brush here for example. In fact, it’s the same one as the lineart! The soft shading is a multiply layer 😅

Smooth shadows! But a lot of things have hard shadows. It can be tough for new artists to tell when and where to use what, and using only hard brushes/edges doesn’t have the “side effects” of making things muddy, so it can get a nicer finish if an artist isn’t super comfortable yet.

I was never blessed with liquify as I have always used SAI which . I think is from the 90s 😭 idk, she does not have such features</3

But for beginner artists they tend to use airbrush/blur on shadows quite a lot. It can often make things look muddy + “wrong”, some objects will indeed have -
