The fishers collaborating on my research projects and helping release stingrays also received their own Resolution of Congratulations! Since 2020, over 4,000 rays have been released in Balneário Camboriú, and many other great results have been achieved through our partnership. 🎣

NONE of this would happen without the support of Minorities in Shark Sciences @misselasmo.bsky.social , the organization that has been changing my life since its beginning in 2020. Seriously, I will never be able to thank them enough for believing and encouraging my career. I love you. 💙

My 2024 started in the US. On Jan. 2nd I came to attend my 2nd conference here. Now, Dec. 31st, I just landed in Atlanta to attend my 4th conference. Not even in my wildest and most ambitious dreams did I think that one day I was going to experience something like this.

Today a cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus) washed up dead on our Central beach. Luckily and, thanks to my DVM friend, I managed to get it before the authorities threw the animal in the trash. I’ll collect as much data and samples as possible so that this life wasn’t lost in vain.

A few said it would be near impossible to work with chimaeras in Brazil 🇧🇷, because of their rarity here. Today I received audio from a fisher saying that he has a Callorhinchus callorynchus for me. Of the 5 Brazilian states that have records, I have specimens from 4 states. 🙏🥹❤️
