Most of the licensed sets aren’t for me, but I get that some may become interested in MtG through these sets. I would be interested to know how many of them go on to purchase and explore other content, and how much of that money goes back into MtG development beyond licensing new IPs.

Sony knows the story of this card. You cast it hoping it makes an impact. It dies because it is kinda weak. Then you pay a bit more to send it to exile with the hopes of finding something better soon. Seems like the entire arc is covered.
