@seananmcguire.bsky.social I have a non-spoilery Alchemical Journeys question that has come from reading an arc of Inkpot Gods.

If Asphodel’s books are in a sort of in competition with L. Frank Baum’s Oz books in-universe, did you decide to use those books as part of writing the Up-and-Under?

A movie that takes place where you’re from.

Also the funniest and most underrated Australian comedy out there

@tkingfisher.com I hope that you’re proud of yourself young lady! The nightmares that I had last night!!!!!

This was……masterful. Genuinely creepy, clever, and so uniquely you that no other author could have written it

Now reading: Enchanting the Fae Queen!

Bless the arc gods at edelweiss, she’s out in the world ✨

@seananmcguire.bsky.social have you heard that Australia discovered a whole new species of stuck insect? 40cm, 44gm, and officially the heaviest insect in Australia.

(As if we weren’t scary enough)

Book friends: If you go to a book launch, and pre-purchase a book with your ticket, does that count towards the authors first week sales, or for the date of the event?

If I’ve got tickets for an event two weeks after the official release date, is it better for the author for me to buy beforehand?

@jodimca.bsky.social would you mind if I pick your Doctor Love brain a little? I have a couple of questions about romance theorists 🖤🖤🖤

Ahhhhh!
Look what is on Netgalley!

Eeeeeeeee!
Now I am torn. Do I devour it all now, or do I reread books one and two for the whole trilogy experience??????

@bethrevis.bsky.social Last Chance to Save the World is out on Netgalley!

Praying to the arc gods because I could really do with the catharsis of seeing Strom Fetor get what’s coming to him….

Can I just say OOF! I’ll definitely have to get my hands on the fantasy ones too. Excellent recommendation

With the world as it is right now, let me just add this.

You are safe with me.

@yumewrites.bsky.social

deep breaths

Saltcrop arcs have arrived on edelweiss!

Luckily I have a very long train commute today and can spend some quality time reading 🌊

Now reading They Watch From Below by Katya De Becerra, & it’s totally getting to me with it’s moody, atmospheric, dark academia vibes

I also love that it’s inspired by the authors memories of her undergrad anthropology degree, which is giving me nostalgia for my own anthro undergrad.

It’s almost the end of December and I’m still catching up on my November reviews….

I did save the best for last.
There were two advanced copies I read from two of my all time favourite, guaranteed auto buy authors, and I loved them both to pieces.
I was looking at my November reads and realising that even without intending to do Novellavember, it kinda ended up that way.

19 books including 6 novellas, and 5 arcs, plus two very cool graphic novels.

@rsagarcia.bsky.social I just had an epiphany!

Nightward isn’t available in hard copy in Australia until next year, but is it available in the Caribbean? Preferably Jamaica where a friend of mine is visiting his family for Christmas?

He has a little bit longer in San Diego, BUT

I have just read this blistering and genuinely surprising novella, and, well……

OOF.

(Do it)
get yourself some Dragonfly for the 🎄holidays🎄.

a book where everyone hates each other and also wants to f*ck each other (or f*ck each other over).

Question for any book friends:

If a book is described as Title A meets Title B, would you expect it to be a straight up adaptation of Title B?

Comps to me seem like a way to get vibes or aesthetics or something across, not a source text for an adaptation.

Gifting indie AND trans books? Even better.
On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

It’s been a really tough couple of months, and I have fallen so far behind in my reviews.

I’ve missed that excited feeling. So I’m going back to it!
October was the worst personal life wise, but there were some very good books that came my way.

And she was thoughtful enough to release it on my birthday!
