Unexpected find when night walking. 2 Motoro stingrays (Potamotrygon motoro) in a narrow, shallow drain no more than 20cm (8”) wide. A beautiful and fascinating fish. The invasive Motoro is native to the Amazon River but was released here in Singapore by hobbyists.

A Bamboo Viper (Trimeresurus albolabris) alongside a road on a drizzly Hong Kong night. A little over exposed, but in my defence, I had trucks rumbling along the road, the viper was in half shadow, and I had a large curious cow behind me. Snap and go!

This little bandit is a young Common Palm Civet. I often find them in the wild fig trees at night. Beautiful animals and equally at home in the forest or the shadows of suburbia.

A young male Rhinoceros Hornbill turned up in Singapore this week. It is huge compared to the local Oriental Pied Hornbills, and it oozes charisma. This is the first time in 200 years that this species has been seen in Singapore, despite populations in neighbouring Malaysia.

I decided to give it a minute before heading into this part of the boardwalk. Godzilla, aka Malayan Water Monitor (Varanus salvator) coming through 🦖

Can you see the little Four-ridged toad? Volume for the sound of more toads croaking in the leaf litter. I’ve been searching for this little guy in Singapore for 5 years. Finally one walked across the forest floor in front of me. Happy!

A young urban Smooth-coated otter found and nut and bolt that made for a bit of entertainment. Otters love to find themselves a little toy to play with.

It’s been too long! Look at this absolute stunner!! A young Blue Malayan Coral Snake (Calliophis bivirgatus). Fire red head and tail connected with electric blue stripes. This snake is famed for its unusual venom when it should be famed for its docile nature.
