I mean there’s still mechanics from the first riders that separates it from current sonic racing, like the air meter, or character-type-abilities like flying and grinding

Metroid games are too compact for vehicular gameplay; Zelda games are so expansive they gave you a horse as soon as they went 3D. And a motorcycle is basically a mechanical horse
