Oil painting of Irving from Severance in s2e9. Was going for sad/hopeful, but may have overshot to ‘about to cry’. I spent about an hour on this (1 layer). Visible brushstrokes. Fairly simple 2 woman hug pose. Kiss? Ambiguous. Drawing style is a little more simplified than I usually do. Fluffy pink cloud background. This is of me&wife (like basically all my drawings of two people who look like this.) Which makes it kind of hard to write text because I’m not sure what other people see. I guess character of me is wearing a purple tshirt, midtone skin, black/brown curly/wavy hair. Character of wife has a pink shirt & straight black hair. Both hairstyles are sort of uncombed looking. Mine for realism, wife’s because she saw how I drew mine and wanted more ‘swooshy hair strands’. I also gave myself arm hair, both cause it’s trendy in art right now, and cause it would look off without it. The shadow tones are purple (I’m going through a purple phase). This is a redraw of something I drew 6 yrs ago and posted on reddit. If it looks familiar, that’s why. I’m way better now tho. Someday I’ll be good at alt text too.

Wider shot. This is the main pic, but the downscaling makes the faces like 3 pixels so I posted it second. Ava is in a wheelchair & Beatrice is on one knee. They are on a path next to the beach. It is a sunny day with big puffy clouds and soft waves. The feet are cropped out cause after drawing four hands I didn’t feel like drawing feet too. Pose & colors same as previous image. Glaze and Nightshade comparison. Thoughts?
The image as I painted it. It has a slight gradient mapped texture distortion already. Image with glaze applied at default settings, slowest render time. To me it looks kind of obnoxiously swirly, my wife couldn’t tell the difference Image with nightshade. To me it looks like the texture is a lot crunchier, the texture transitions are sharper Zoom in of the previous 3 + one that I glazed and nightshaded. Tbh I couldn’t see myself seriously posting that one, as it looks like the face has a skin condition.

WIP steps, brushes. My portrait process is basically ‘keep going until it looks nice’ (more details in alt text)
1. Sketch. I just try to get the general idea and fix it later on. I’m trying to decide what to focus on and where my color regions will be -> 2. Plan lighting on a layer below the sketch. Sometimes I skip step 1 and start here. -> 3. Merge everything and start painting. Gradual build. I never hide the sketch, I paint on top of it. 4. Add more contrast. (5 is adjust all the b/c/s levels on my phone before posting. My ipad is brighter so my art is usually too dark). Not going to type out the brush info but lmk if you have questions.
