I am probably half way through this one at this point. I don't know when it will be done or where this song will end up but this was a long time goal for me. Glad it's getting out of my head.

A month or so ago I was noodling and really felt like I had it. This has been a long time coming and still not turning out like I thought it would.

Sometimes I go in with a story or theme in mind and write the music I hear, sometimes I write music and see where it takes my brain.

Since I started this I have been wanting to make a song for Thra.

I have gone in a few times and failed, ended up releasing the albums with a different wrapping.

This feels like it's it, I just never intended it to be prog rock.

Production isn't great on this one but it doesn't bother me enough to be one to go and fix up. I don't mind the ugliness on a lot of my old stuff but the ones that do bother me I am trying to make right over time.

I love songwriting now but at the start it felt more of a chore to get the good stuff, which was arranging music. I still maybe feel that why and that's why I do so many improvised albums.

I think maybe the main theme here in this one repeats a little too much but I was trying to learn how to really make repetition and arrangement a feature.

It took a long while before I stopped using works of fiction as a barrier between myself and my music and I am glad I mostly leave it behind these days. I still love books and every now and then will put something out fiction inspired.

The first bit of this project I specifically stuck to fictional stories who shared a theme of hubris leading to a societal collapse. Imrryr, chasm city, Arrakis, the final empire. It was intentional to kick it off that way, I could not sustain such a tight focus.

This was an exercise in arrangement. Tracks 1,3,4, and 6 are all the same song.

One and three clearly are the same but 4 and 6 stray as the melding plague erodes chasm city. The main theme of the melding plague also pops up in tracks 2 and 7. It's really meant to get under your skin.
