Counting down the days to KARLA'S CHOICE by @harkaway.bsky.social, turned up these old snaps from Karla's desk at Moscow Centre. Looking forward to seeing what he was up to in the years before Tinker Tailor.
The genius of @kipwilliams.bsky.social 's username has me corpsing; first he Sort Of liked my comments, now he's Sort Of following me. 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely love this level of Manufactured Disinterest, wish I'd thought of it first.

Was scrolling too quickly and my pre-caffeinated brain saw this @pivotpod.bsky.social caption as THE QUEST FOR KARLA. My tour of @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social 's London is so nigh that I'm seeing little Smileys everywhere. Cannot wait to get across the pond. And possibly just stay there.

I hope to walk @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social 's London next week. I hope to see the Tradecraft exhibit in Oxford. I hope to attend the opening night of The Spy Who Came In From the Cold. But we live in a tin pot dictatorship run by idiots, monsters, fascists, racists, and ghouls. So...who knows.

What a sweet little nugget. Just needs a thousand kisses on that head. An hour.

I do, but shan't spoil it.

It's THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD. It's that one. The one that made le Carré a household name, the OG, the book Graham Greene called the greatest spy story ever told.
The first line of this month's book... do you know which Smiley it is?

The Senate is still meeting and holding votes as normal despite the shutdown.

The House has not held a vote in a month and a half now solely because Mike Johnson wants to prevent the release of the Epstein Files.

They've killed our government to save their pedophiles.
A quick reminder that the House is not in session because Speaker Johnson CANCELED it, not because of the current shutdown.

Traveling without bookstore access for the week, so just ducked into a little airport bookseller looking for KING SORROW by @joe-hill.bsky.social ; found it sold out (yay!) but I'm hauling 90 lbs of carryon so probably for the best. Seems like a great moment for some magazine to do a big spread of photos of the East Wing throughout its history, driving home exactly what kinds of spaces have been taken from the people.

Notifications about insurance hikes and SNAP/WIC cuts are rolling out.

I personally would NOT start construction on a fancy ballroom the same week but I also don’t run a successful cult so maybe they know what they’re doing.

Added this Time magazine to the Musée du Cirque; a wonderful @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social cover story. Includes possibly the silliest photo of le Carré I've ever seen (though delightful all the same) and redeems itself with a lovely family photo including Jane and @nickharkaway.com. #tradecraft

Added this small but charming bit of @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social ephemera to my growing Musée du Cirque, in loving memory of the great spy writer. Alec Guinness writes to a fan who'd requested a photo, but all he had handy was a promotional headshot from SMILEY'S PEOPLE. ❤️ I've died.

Racing through IAH, the World's Dumbest Airport Layout Award winner every year I land here, and spotted the familiar red and black spine of a favorite @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social novel on their cute but forlorn little Book Club cart. Perhaps it's been seconded from a local correctional facility.

Stumbled into this delightful interview with @realjohnlecarre.bsky.social that I'd never seen before, hosted by the (usually insufferable) Malcolm Muggeridge, who seems at first to bore and annoy le Carré but then strikes a deep chord in him with talk of mystics. Sublime.

Reporter: What’s going on with those posts on X that are clearly trolling the president?

Newsom: I hope it’s a wake up call for the president. I’m just following his example. If you have issues with what I’m putting out, you sure as hell should have concerns with what he’s putting out
