The Castle - distant view of the oldest surviving building standing in Castle Field at the south-east corner of the island. Constructed between 1242 & 1244 by Henry III after the Marisco family had been captured on Lundy in 1242.

Upper East Side Path affords excellent views of the East Sideland. Part of New Town was sited nearby although now no trace can be seen. A map from 1840 named New Town near the Tillage Field #Lundy #Bristolchannel

In the 1850s William Hudson Heaven cut a path through Ladies Beach Combe in order for the ladies of the family to privately bathe. Unfortunately the path has since subsided #Lundy #beaches #LadiesBeach

Near Tibbets stands a rocky outcrop resembling a human head wearing a helmet, it is know as the Knight Templar Rock. Between 1154 & 1220 Henry II granted the Knights Templar ownership of the island #Lundy #rock #face

In 1905 during the digging of a grave for Miss Amelia Heaven a chance discovery was made of an inscribed memorial stone (TIGERNUS) that dated to the late 6th century. It was excavated from within the ruined chapel inside the old burial ground on Beacon Hill #Lundy

St Helens Church is one of the most iconic buildings on Lundy standing as a beacon on the horizon it can be seen from the mainland on a clear day. It is a listed grade II building of national architectural & historic importance, owned by the Diocese of Exeter.

Bryophytes the study & conservation of mosses & liverworts are recorded by the LFS on Lundy. In spring 2021 a species was found on Lundy that was new to Britain Didymodon tophaceus subsp. #robin #moss #Lundy #Bristolchannel #bryophytes

In 1829 Old Light lower light room was relocated from its original position beneath the sill halfway up the tower to the base of the tower into a new lantern room. It was hoped that this location would be less affected by fog but the problem was not solved #Lundy #lighthouse
