Really great article on just how easily a lack of investment can turn into severe transit service reductions 🚍
The Transit Death Spiral is something that desperately needs to be avoided, but can be easily kickstarted during budget crunches.

Stagnant budgets are actively damaging to transit service. As an extension to this video, my thoughts on "schedule maintenance": bettercolumbia.ca/2025/12/02/f...

Small bike lane is gradually turning into big bike lane!

(Good progress in Mile-End, but further south hasn’t seen much change yet.)

Metrolinx has decided that they know how to run a railway better than the Germans at DB who made up ONxpress. A huge loss of talent for transit in Toronto and Canada and easily as catastrophic a move from Metrolinx as the agencies performance on the Eglinton Crosstown.
As of yesterday contract with OOI (ONxpress) and CAD Rail terminated. Alstom seeking a 4-10 year extension now.

If you live in a small/midsized city, you can often change the discourse on housing/land use by starting a locally-focused blog on these issues. I've seen it happen. With the death of local media, there's often no one covering e.g. zoning hearings. If that's you, you set the terms of the debate.

How did SFU end up on top of Burnaby Mountain?

The surprising answer involves a new highway, an abandoned graveyard and a land swap that transformed Vancouver’s waterfront.

Burnaby Mountain is a little slice of nature in the city. But how did Simon Fraser University end up on its peak?

i haven't watched a council meeting in months and i forgot how mad they make me feel - needless wasting of staff time and, for whatever reason, an unrepentant desire to pursue entirely useless public engagement that does nothing but delay getting anything done
