Interesting email here from Elisa New, Harvard professor and wife to Larry Summers, to Epstein, reflecting on Lolita.

I miss Rani Baker. Didn't publicly observe the anniversary this year because it was an occasion for trans joy in my personal life but that doesn't mean I forgot.

Feels like no matter how much trans joy spreads and persists these wounds never heal.

the throughline of the conservative culture war they're waging is simply this: women and children are property.

that's it. everything else is downstream of that

They should study journalists’ brains like they do with football players after they die.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

1. We are ruled by a group of pedophiles that I refuse to call a cabal because cabals work in the fucking shadows, this was all out in the open. The entire ruling class knew what was happening they talked about it openly and none of them cared.

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

People are making their jokes but this is white Christian culture writ large. Women, girls alike are raised to understand that men goes after young girls because its their sex that makes them virtuous and their pursuit is just a natural thing that happens. Boys will be boys, men will be men etc.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

The defense that NYT writers and editors are making for themselves is "we're too incompetent to be journalists." That's how bad it is.
I was at NYT for 7 years & one of a dozen reporters who investigated Epstein’s interactions w/the rich & powerful. I don’t know every conversation held at every level there, but I do know we dedicated ourselves to exposing those who supported Epstein & engaged in the abuse of girls he facilitated

Do we know Landon told anyone that he was having this convo with Epstein? We do not! But let’s say an editor knew. Then what? At most, it would be the beginning of an investigation. Would Landon be the reporter to do it? Probably not! You see he’s begging Epstein for specifics & doesn’t get them

one thing we need to do as a society is treat all fraud or theft over $100 million or so as a potential capital crime, with the possibility of execution for offenders.

Predictable but still amazing to watch people who spent literally years accusing every librarian, teacher, and trans person they could find of sexually grooming children suddenly throw themselves in with "actually it's ephebophilia"

Before the 2004 election the Dubya admin did everything they could to stop the NYT from running a story about their massive illegal surveillance program run out of the NSA.

They met with Bill Keller to ‘convince’ him national security was stake if they ran the story.

The NYT did not run the story

what strikes me the most about the Epstein emails is not that they're talking about monstrous stuff or whatever, it's that they're talking extremely casually to each other. i see familiar "in group" dynamics where you have a lot of empathy for people in your circle and none for people outside of it
