On nights like these Lan Zhan lies in bed and looks at Wei Ying sleeping and he knows — he doesn’t deserve any of Wei Ying’s kindness. If he truly loves Wei Ying, the right thing to do would be to break it off. To make him leave. Not cruelly, not gradually, pushing and pushing and trying to find out when he breaks. Wei Ying is better, stronger, kinder than Lan Zhan could ever imagine. He might never break. It’s Lan Zhan who has to make that decision. He wonders about his mother. Trapped in a marriage with a man who didn’t love her, wilting slowly until nothing was left of her. Why didn’t she leave? What was so special about his father, anyway? He can’t remember. The problem is that he cannot remember, that other than her sadness that is engraved into his heart, lacerations that will never stop bleeding, the rest of it is blurry. He remembers their fights, remembers her crying, remembers his father begging. It’s all dim, as if he was watching from afar, underwater while his parents’ lives were going up in flames. A protective mechanism, perhaps. Lan Huan would surely say so. A therapist would surely say so, if Lan Zhan ever thought to seek that kind of help. Wei Ying’s presence isn’t blurry, isn’t dim, isn’t faraway. He is right here and he is so real that Lan Zhan can take him in with all his senses, sight-sound-taste-smell, touch. He can touch Wei Ying whenever and however he wants to, evident in the dark string of bruises around Wei Ying’s neck, in the places their bodies are touching even now. Wei Ying dislikes sleeping without touching him. His hair is spread over the pillow, ebony-black, his eyelashes fluttering as he dreams. There’s no experience sharper, clearer, than being in Wei Ying’s presence. How could Lan Zhan break away from this?

Teenage me is yelling right back at ya 🤝 I posted one wipwed for it over 2 years ago (🥲), here it is. There's not much more beyond this in the doc, for a while there was the option it would turn into a collaboration with an artist friend, but so far it's one of those things that just never happened.

Lan Xichen is also relieved to know that his mother approves of Wangji’s and Wei Wuxian’s friendship. He did his best with his big brother senses and advice, but sometimes it’s good to get his mama’s reassurance. "He’s a troublemaker, this one," she said of Wei Wuxian the first time she met him. But she said it in a fond way — like when she tells Wangji that he is too serious, or Xichen that it’s okay to worry less. Like after the first time she met Wei Wuxian’s mother, and then over dinner told their uncle, "So feisty! Like mother, like son, I suppose." She even laughed a little. That’s another thing they found out, much to their astonishment — it turns out that Wei Wuxian’s mother is familiar with Lan Qiren, friends from when they were younger. When she is visiting and their uncle is around, Wei Wuxian’s mother always manages to get into fights with him. Friendly arguments, she calls it. Lan Xichen notices that this is also the expression Wei Wuxian uses, when he and Wangji can’t decide on what to play together. Once, Wangji asks their uncle after one of those visits why he puts up with so much teasing from Wei Wuxian’s mother. Lan Qiren tells him, "She is my friend, so I allow it." "Does this mean I should let Wei Ying tease me?" Wangji asks sullenly — it’s been another one of the friendly arguments days — and Lan Xichen does his best not to laugh. Again.
