Oh wow, a bunch of friends just showed up. 👋🏻 Since I haven’t posted here in nearly a year, I’ll take this opp to say: You likely won’t find me here. After all those years glued to Twitter, I’m enjoying my time untethered from the internet way too much. Find me in a couple Slacks, text, and 🧁 Insta.
My personality type is that when I’m watching old episodes of How It’s Made about toilet paper or plastic bottles or frozen lasagna or whatever with my kids, I want to know how the machine is made.

Yes! This! Interactions don't need to be transactional. It isn't all tit-for-tat and quid pro quo. Life doesn't have to be a series of favors owed and repaid. You can just be kind to people without expecting anything back. I wish more people understood this, especially those in positions of power.
I'm trying to give more positive, genuine, non-transactional feedback. I compliment strangers. I tell people when I appreciate something, like their editing and production work on a video, inviting me to an event, or making sure there are complementary menstrual supplies for conference attendees.

4yo is big mad that Apple Music removed one of his favorite songs. This is how it ends for big tech. He will never forget.

I started a Baking Notification Project account. Go say hi. Tell me (over there!) about the best baked good you ever ate, the one you still dream about. Tag me (over there!) when you see a good croissant.

On Source, Max Siegelbaum tells how the Documented newsroom fought for data about wage theft in their state, and how you can do the same. It's a project that's pointing them to all sorts of crucial stories, because wage theft can indicate lots of other workplace problems, too.

Find my response in the comments and add yours. This is fascinating. 🕒🕞
little research question here: If I said something is happening at the “bottom of the hour,” what does that mean to you, if anything?

"No organization is more worthy of support than this one. OpenNews is an island of sanity in an ocean of media crazy."

That's the first note we received on our donation page after we announced our end-of-year fundraising drive.

We are honored. Can you help, too?

I started the BNP as a side project TWO YEARS AGO (!!) this month, and it still brings me so much joy to know that it gives other people spontaneous little joys and connection in their neighborhoods.

Thanks for sharing, @jenburns70.bsky.social! 🧁
Have you heard of The Baking Notification Project? If you're in Nashville (or a select few other cities), check them out.
It's a baking subscription plan with neighbors who bake!
Today, my neighbor Lesley made these awesome chocolate cupcakes.🦞

@laurahelmuth.bsky.social has been teaching us conference badge etiquette for as long as I can remember. Pro-tip for #srccon folks:
Pro tip for conferences: Tie a knot in your lanyard or clip your name tag to your shirt collar so people can see your name and your badge doesn't flip backwards. #sciwri23

Someday I hope to understand what offside means.

“Being offsides in soccer means that the opponent is closer to the goal than the second-to-last defender.” lol
Tell me your favorite soccer fact.

Tell me what it’s called when one team passes the ball for a really long time. Tell me why they do that. Tell me how penalty kicks are like free throws, but not at all. Tell me something cool about the Nashville team or one of our players. I’m ready. ⚽️

Vote calcite! It can fluoresce, it can form with a lovely rhombohedral cleavage and in many different colors, it forms caves, and it can grow in fossils.
