Interested in life, mechanisms and evolution across integration levels, and in the social and philosophical dimensions of science.
Scientist at the CNRS in Montpellier, opinions are my own.

Comment analysez-vous la récente réélection de Donald Trump ? Si l’on s’écarte de la science un instant, l’analyse que je fais en tant que politologue est la suivante : on considère souvent Donald Tru...

Forecasts on death toll in European cities because of increasing temperatures. Anything below parallel 44, and especially the Mediterranean arch, will suffer.
More data won't convince any sceptics, though.

Just published! We show that eukaryotic ribosomes can handle bicistronic mRNAs by leaky scanning. Efficiency depends on codon usage and splicing on the upstream ORF. This helps understand non-canonical translation from polycistronic viral mRNAs.

Translation of the downstream ORF from bicistronic mRNAs by human cells: Impact of codon usage and splicing in the upstream ORF
Biochemistry textbooks describe eukaryotic mRNAs as monocistronic. However, increasing evidence reveals the widespread presence and translation of upstream open reading frames preceding the “main” OR...

On the importance of being (biologically) faithful. We show in this preprint that there exists an equilibrium in the #noise and fidelity levels in information transfer in biology, that depends on the environment, #populationsize and #genotypetophenotype mapping.

The Population Genetics of Biological Noise
Noise is intrinsic to information transmission, and information transmission is intrinsic to life. Critically, while biological noise is random, its amount is in part genetically determined. Here, we ...

"Can a biologist fix a radio?" A (to me) hidden gem that reminds me that some of my conceptual and experimental approaches in biochemistry, mol bio and cell bio may hamper rather than help for understanding life.

Can a biologist fix a radio?—Or, what I learned while studying apoptosis
As a freshly minted Assistant Professor, I feared that everything in my field would be discovered before I even had a chance to set up my laboratory. Indeed, the field of apoptosis, which I had recent...

Hello, Bluesky world

happy to join the community and discuss about the evolution of viruses, infections and cancer, information transfer in biology, and about the Russian-doll structure of life, from molecules to cells to tissues, to individuals, to communities.

Cheers!
