Socialist NYC tenant lawyer, dad/husband, music fan, home cook. Lurking till someone posts about housing, or hates on poor people, or complains about the deficit. Rent control gives you the power to tell the landlord to go to hell.
If you are in the path of a steamroller crushing our healthcare, and all you have is a brick to throw, throwing that brick is a moral responsibility. Don't make excuses.

We don't want that to be the way it works. And since this is a democracy, we are going to vote for a new way for it to work. And that means guys like Durbin are done.

If I was an artist I'd try to come up with an illustration of the giant wheel of racist excuses. I wonder if someone with that talent will pick up the challenge here.

Still expensive as shit. The improvements are cosmetic only. Schiphol, in the Netherlands, has a full size supermarket, charging normal prices, where you can buy gouda and bread to take with you. We need to fix the economic model at LGA.

The very first riot after a George Floyd protest was started by a white supremacist nicknamed "Umbrella Man."
He spraypainted "free shit" on an AutoZone, broke the windows, and encouraged others to come in. abcnews.go.com/amp/US/man-h...

Then, it would be a simple matter to deprive the court of its power. But as a practical matter, consensus comes into being. It's human nature.

Fuck 'em. They have too much damn power. Just like in your proposal, mine makes the Circuit Courts of Appeal into the final appellate authority in most cases. But I do think it would encourage compromise: any president who wanted to influence the court will avoid appointing such a malicious actor.

Decisions on cert applications should be unanimous. No more conservative "let's rewrite the law" purpose-designed impact cases. No shadow injunctions without a grant of cert, except to require that appropriated funds be spent or federal contracts be honored.

It's a whole mindset. As a housing lawyer I've been dealing with it for years: free market theory says rent control is bad, so when the studies and evidence show overwhelming benefits, the studies and the facts must be wrong. Never challenge the underpinnings of someone's religion.

The method they use is to take on designer litigation invented in right wing think tanks. We need to strip their jurisdiction to take on these type of cases: cert should be granted only on a unanimous vote, and no injunction granted absent a grant of certiorari.

If you show up for your neighbor as best you can, you set an example. Then other people show up for their neighbors. A ripple effect begins.
That's how movements start. Not with flying heroes, but with showing people they're not alone.

What a weird thing to pick as an example of how civilizations develop.

I don't agree with the premise of your question. I don't know of a good example of the right wing canceling someone for "saying heinous shit." And if it's heinous, it's probably not the product of empathy.
