On Feb. 17, Miquelle West drove herself to the LA airport, parked her SUV and sobbed. Her mother, Michelle, was being released after nearly 32 years in federal prison.

We asked Detroiters which longstanding issues in the city challenge them most.

Nearly two-thirds of respondents said "safety.” A similar number said things like blight, lighting and problems with sidewalks.
