Important advice, worth reading.
We again find ourselves in such a period – perhaps even in an extended backlash. Defenders of democracy – including, but not limited to, Democrats – might find it tempting to move away from positions they worry alienate centrist or the much-storied white working class voters. But not confronting the racial realities of American society only pushes the problem further down the road, leaving us vulnerable to a repeat of the backlash cycle.

I take some solace in the knowledge that my fellow citizens are fighting together, for one another.
Once again, the Democrats fail to understand that perception is what matters in politics, much more than anything else. You can argue the policy specifics until you’re blue in the face, but millions of angry and discontented Americans want mainly to believe that someone is fighting for them, somewhere. And for an all too brief moment they nearly did. Now, many of us don’t know who to trust when the choice we’re given is between a deranged dictator or his feckless appeasers

I agree with @ezraklein.bsky.social on these points.
Democrats said the shutdown was about the subsidies, but for most of them, it wasn’t. It was about Trump’s authoritarianism. It was about showing their base — and themselves — that they could fight back. It was about treating an abnormal political moment abnormally. If I were in the Senate, I wouldn’t vote for this compromise. Shutdowns are an opportunity to make an argument, and the country was just starting to pay attention. If Trump wanted to cancel flights over Thanksgiving rather than keep health care costs down, I don’t see why Democrats should save him from making his priorities so exquisitely clear. And I worry that Democrats have just taught Trump that they will fold under pressure. That’s the kind of lesson he remembers.

She means small states should get a veto. Which is not in the constitution, because it makes no sense. Small states get the same number of Senators as California and New York. That's the extra influence the Constitution gives them.

Today we find ourselves again dancing toward new highs in the stock market. Speculative money is once more pouring into risky investment schemes, with staggering sums of money being thrown at artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies. But rather than heed a century of hard-won lessons, the Trump administration’s financial regulators are embracing dissolute policies to keep the punch flowing.

This is getting increasingly dark. Look at what your government wants to do to you if you express dissent. How far will the National Guard go before they realize that following the orders of a tyrant means destroying the freedoms set down in America's founding documents?
In a series of leaked memos, the Trump administration directed National Guard units in all 50 states to train soldiers in a specialized course that includes the proper use of batons, body shields, stun guns and pepper spray, as part of a force of more than 23,000 troops nationwide.

Trump campaigned on a platform of keeping America out of new wars. He is currently campaigning for the Nobel Peace Prize. But his unhinged ravings, lawless killings of civilians in international waters, and deployment of the USS Ford strike group to the Caribbean are threatening world peace. Given Trump’s mercurial personality and profound ignorance, he is the last person in the world who should have control of the US nuclear capability.
