it might be silly but i think i find it a little difficult to get invested in that sort of plotline bc i can't buy into the fact that the leads really like each other when their entire relationship is composed of middle school flashbacks, if that makes sense? but i certainly didn't DISLIKE them

i've read even though we're adults & run away with me girl and i liked them alright but didn't find them lifechanging (same w pinky candy kiss more recently) --

omg miwa i didn't recognize her!!! i'm so excited for whatever tamiful writes next & i miss when hdwr was coming out regularly. and yes i highly highly recommend ikoku nikki-- one of the rare few that i've reread willingly and cried just as much the second time

i think it's so fascinating how miyagi will easily recognize her family trauma in her own mind but be so resistant to sharing it with anyone else, while sorawo will happily talk about her family trauma to those around her bc she simply doesn't recognize it as having been traumatic. it's striking

she's so relatable so often & i adore how the progression of her self-understanding ties in so closely to the horrors she's experiencing and her relationship w other people. the part where she has to acknowledge to herself that toriko really likes her and thinks "god, i'm such a child..."

(in terms of yuri recs in general i really liked how do we relationship, girls' last tour & shimeji simulation, and ikoku nikki (though that last one is more josei))

i'm mostly familiar w manga too, sob.... otherside picnic was my first LN and i started reading shuukura afterwards in search of more. if you end up reading adashima and think highly of it lmk so i can try it!!

sorawo is SUCH a well-written narrator!! if you like her voice in the manga you'll love her in the LN -- when i started reading shuukura i told my friend "miyagi feels like a paragon of emotional self-awareness compared to sorawo's narration" and i stand by that

hi i think you would really really like reading otherside picnic by iori miyazawa (specifically the light novel version (not the manga)). you can find epubs & pdfs of every volume on annas-archive.org, it's shorter than shuukura to catch up on, it's maybe the best yuri i know. hopefully you enjoy..!
