Survey research on public views of science & environment; climate change; human/environment interactions; society in the Arctic. Also: walking my dog through the woods, and gazing at the night sky. All graphs & photos are my own unless otherwise cited.
In between clouds I was happy to catch asteroid Eros tonight despite the bright moonlight. This from 80 minutes of data, gathered over about three hours during which Eros moved this far relative to the background stars. 🔭

Fascinating that this same sunspot group was photographed days ago by Perseverance rover, looking from Mars at the far side of the Sun.

I think that conspiracism, & science rejection are growing. Driven partly by conspiracist conservative elites & disruptive troll actors. But also: many people don't know much science and say they get their science/conspiracy info from social media. Regression paper in progress.

We had a fine time staying near Torrey, hiking in the park, and stargazing around the time of the October 2023 annular eclipse.

Walked out into a cold dark field at 4am this morning, came home with photos unimpressive but fun: interstellar comet 3I/Atlas and the Chinese space station Tiangong.

It was cold out in that field at 4am this morning!
But worthwhile just to get my own unimpressive photos of interstellar comet 3I/Atlas. 🔭

Love seeing these birds, who somehow are thriving amidst coyote, bobcat & fox (not to mention all the people & pets) in our neighborhood.

To reject science findings about fossil fuels it was necessary to fold science rejection into conservative identity. Opened a Pandora's box of conspiracism next directed against covid & public health, now so much else. E.g. 23% believe in chemtrails, 34% unsure.
