11/ Who profits from ICE’s abuses of power?

Many people are surprised to learn that profits for private prison corporations have skyrocketed since the election.

These corporations WANT ICE transfers from prison.
They WANT ICE arrests in the street. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

6/ After public outcry, the City Supervisors passed a law to protect due process - over Newsom’s veto.

Years later, Newsom acknowledged that “the issue of due process was the missing link there.” www.kqed.org/forum/201010...

1/ Dear Gov. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social

We’re calling you in.

To protect democracy, we need to UPHOLD due process for all who call CA home.
We need to embrace our shared humanity.

And we shouldn’t double down on rhetoric or policies that divide, dehumanize, and pave the way for abuses.

Here’s the kicker. It sounds like Politico California made up a sample of “policy influencers” based on self-selected responses from their OWN subscribers, and the basis for last week’s article is …comparing these skewed responses to the electorate at large? 🤦 11/

21% of CA voters say they want the number of immigrants admitted to the US to increase; 36% want it to stay about the same. That’s a clear majority right there. Meanwhile, 18% want it “decreased a little,” while only 25% want it “decreased a lot.” 9/
April 24, 2025 at 8:04 PM
One more thing about immigration: last week’s article claimed a “plurality” of voters is “skeptical” of “legal immigration”, without listing any data or even a definition of “skepticism.” But the numbers tell a totally different story! 8/

The law also has the support of the vast majority of democrats, a majority of independents and “something else” voters, AND nearly one in three Republican voters too. 6/

The sanctuary law enjoys majority support not just in LA (62%), the Bay (68%), and OC/San Diego (57%), but a solid 60% in the Central Valley too. 5/

Majorities of Asian, Black, Latino, and white voters ALL support the Sanctuary state law. 4/

The Sanctuary State law enjoys majority support across gender, age and race.

Voters 18-34, 35-49, AND 65+ all support the law. 3/

While CA hospitals are required under state sanctuary law to enact policies to protect against ICE incursions, the piece underscores the need for stronger protections to protect Californians’ personal data. 9/

And there's ANOTHER good poll. In "purple" Orange County, a UC Irvine OC Poll, released in Jan, found only 1/3 of OC residents agree with mass deportation, while about 60 percent “would prefer an option for the undocumented to obtain legal status." 6/

And there's MORE! Earlier this month Emerson College Polling found:

“A majority of voters (56%) think mass deportations of undocumented immigrants in California are a bad thing for California, while 44% think they are a good thing for the state.” 5/

Another MAJOR finding from PPIC:

“About six in ten adults (63%) and likely voters (62%) favor the California state and local governments making their own policies and taking actions, separate from the federal government, to protect the legal rights of undocumented immigrants" 3/
February 27, 2025 at 11:41 PM
From PPIC’s new poll:

“An overwhelming majority of adults (72%) and likely voters (70%) say that immigrants are a benefit to California.”

In February 2024, this figure was at 60%, so today’s results represent a significant increase in support.

On pardons, labor leader Carlos Flores implores: “Governor Newsom, do not allow our brothers and sisters to be judged by who they were. Rather, embrace and uplift the person they are today: contributors to a better California.”
