Trump has never been like the people who support him. He's never even bought his own groceries, so making life better is a foreign concept to him. But the biggest cheers at his rallies come when he blames other people, not for making life worse, but for stealing the better life his voters deserve.

You're about to enter the pharmaceutical and supplement advertising bracket. It's worse, and it will last the rest of your life.

So reminiscent of Rodrigo Duterte in Philippines, currently awaiting trial at the Hague for Crimes against Humanity related to extrajudicial killings during his war on drugs in Philippines.

I don't think he ever caught a drug smuggler; it was just an excuse to kill thousands of poor people.

Two thoughts:

First, "God will forgive me. That is his business." -- Heinrich Heine.

Second, Trump has no moral compass, and regularly talks to pastors and priests who tell him he was annointed by God. He's not smart enough to realize they only speak for themselves. FWIW, neither are they.

What rules of morality and legality to apply to them, Will? Laws don't enforce morality, and the best the courts can do today is show things down until they get to SCOTUS, which seems predisposed to rule in Trump's favor. What rules apply? Will SCOTUS agree? Cynical me can't see any light ahead...

Where did Face The Nation's 1.4% number come from? That does seem really low, but it would be unlike their research department to get a basic number like that wrong.

True story: [*] When Jeff Bezos was looking for things to sell on the internet, books weren't the first choice. His first business was Amazon Cats, because it was so easy. They would just jump into the box, and didn't even try to escape when you closed the lid.

[*] Narrator: It's not true.

No, they are the boundary separating a government that has become barbaric from a civilized society.

there, still in the hearts of so many who came here following that promise. In spite of everything they endure here, they still believe. They still have hope. They still dream.

I'm thankful for everyone who continues to believe in us. May we always strive to live up to their hopes and dreams. 4/4

dreams. Even Trump and his MAGA followers can't dislodge that vision.

My takeaway from your story and all the Filipinos I know is that the enduring promise of this nation remains the slow progress that has gradually made us better. Even if it's hard for us to see from the inside, it's still 3/

I traveled to Philippines a few months ago, and was amazed that despite our president and our fucked up politics, everyone I talked to still viewed this as still the land of opportunity, a place of hopes and 2/

I've read your July 4 post every year for the past few years, and this year it seems just as relevant today, and every other day. I don't know any of the Filipinos you wrote about, who served in WWII, but have always been amazed that they continued to believe 1/

You bet! World Dryer was protecting us from "the hazards of disease" back in the days when America was Great and we all shared paper towels with strangers in public restrooms to maximize usage of each towel.

My 96 year old mom still rails about "planned obsolescence" as the reason nothing lasts for decades any more. Device hoarding, is simply expecting that any durable good you buy, from cars to door knobs, should last the rest of your life.
