A magazine.
There's a lot of politics discourse based around avoiding obvious syllogism
Broadly it seems like 80% of attractiveness discourse is driven by the basic fallacy Roald Dahl makes here, where he believes you can promote the view "being nice makes you attractive" without promoting the logically equivalent view "if you're unattractive you must not be nice"

My grand unifying theory of politics rn is that we haven't invented an ideology for the material conditions of the 21st century yet, so it's just been cargo cults for everybody.

The conservative desire to ‘be the counterculture’ is so funny to me: guess how many divisions the writers at n plus one or the baffler command. None! The people who write for cool art mags & curate trendy galleries are far close to me than the median voter, & it does *nothing*, we lose all the time

One of the weirdest thoughts: that I am a Hugo winner and nobody in Singapore even bothers or cares. SFF is so niche and people won't bat an eyelid at local talent.

Oh yeah...

There is a new Singapore-based SFF magazine. Looking for Asian writers.

Boost and better still... submit!

The NSF and NIH stuff is the kind of lower-salience thing where it is probably more useful to contact your representative and let them know people are pissed about this, people who vote.

honestly the equation of any "you have to take responsibility for your own choices" statement with 'conservatism' is both false and politically frustrating
very funny that i have a quote tweet calling this “right wing bullshit” because few people can store leftovers for a week or two. “you should learn how to cook and be responsible with your money as much as that is possible” is not “right wing bullshit,” it is basic life advice.

"formal education is a scam, you should instead pay $2000 for my six video lecture series on dropshipping" is a weirdly successful pitch. It's also a perfect scam because like,,, what are you gonna do, sue them for the course sucking? They didn't promise anything but 6 videos
This was mentioned by others but there's also the hustle/grindset culture and increasingly ubiquitous scams in America playing into this where an education is broadly viewed by these people as a scam so pursuing one is being a sucker
My dad (a longtime high school math teacher in rural Utah) is constantly bemoaning this. Rural white American culture broadly treats being "stupid" almost as a badge of honor--"I was doing productive things with my life instead of math".

Genuinely crazy how bad reddit's gotten; incredibly blatant trolling "I wanna deport my trump supporting neighbours parents" get's taken inexplicably seriously.
Everyone talks about the boomerfication of Facebook but I feel like the same thing happening to reddit has been less noted.

If 25% of the population believed that a creature called ‘Glonzo’ caused high power prices by chewing through transmission lines, any competent politician would be negligent in not trying to find a way to exploit this. This doesn’t mean that these people wouldn’t be fucking morons.

This headline was deliberately written to make people believe this was related in some way to the UHC murder.

But if you actually read the article, NBC News reported on Atrium Health in September and the medical debt was forgiven starting later in that month.
North Carolina’s Atrium Health says it will forgive the debts of 11,500 people — less than a week after NBC News reported that the company has aggressively pursued former patients’ medical debts, placing liens on their homes to collect on bills.
'Like a miracle': N.C. couple free of nearly $100,000 medical debt after 15 years
The lien on Donna and Gary Lindabury's home for a 2009 heart surgery debt was among 11,500 wiped away by Atrium Health after an NBC News report.

I know I'm a broken record on this but one apolitical cultural reform we absolutely need is pushing the hell back on "get that bag" culture. Stop praising content creators for better natively integrating their advertising! Stop giving content creators a pass for advertising scams!
