With vehicle access into Somoveken Glacier limited by crevassing, the sensor deployment, survey and retrieval required a few 13-hour traverses, making for a unique Christmas Day & New Year’s Eve experience. Nevertheless, excited to be back home at @utas.edu.au & start looking at the data. 4/4

We also collected seismic data with a 32-node array at the Somoveken Glacier, hoping to detect cryoseisms from nearby crevasses & subglacial mechanisms. This was supplemented by active sledgehammer & phase-sensitive radar provided by @fsmccormack.bsky.social to constrain ice & bed structure. 3/4

As part of the GRIT (Geophysical Research InfrasTructure of Antarctica) initiative, we installed two new long-term seismometers alongside the Sigyn Glacier, aiming to collect passive seismic data for several seasons. These stations provide new data points for continental solid-Earth studies. 2/4

First post on BlueSky to mark the end of my Antarctic fieldwork in Queen Maud Land working with @andrewmackintosh.bsky.social and some other wonderful scientists at @arcsaef.bsky.social. Overall, trip was hugely successful, with some exciting science to come. 1/4
