These are brilliantly bonkers, each more weird than the one before
Gashapon (or Gachapon) are vending machines found all over Japan that dispense capsules containing miniature toys and other items. There are thousands of different kinds. Here’s a thread of the best ones I saw on my recent trip. 🧵

Has anyone else noticed the striking similarity between The Thunderbird’s arch-villain, The Hood, and the BBC Defence Correspondent, Jonathan Beale. Could they be related?

Disappointing lack of photos of dogs at the conclave.

QPR and Man City gave us the most appalling 20 seconds of association football since records began.

These men are heroes. We thank them for their service.

I’ve just put up a light fitting that we bought 17 years ago & has remained in its box since we got it. We’ve been in this house for 13 years & the light fitting replaces a bare bulb that’s been there since we moved in.
Is this some sort of record?

This is sad. I loved David’s books.

Time for a repeat showing of Nice Work in tribute
I am very sad to say, David Lodge died on January 1st.
He was a wonderful man and hugely influential writer.
I was lucky to be his agent and he taught me so much.
His campus novels will be read for years to come.
A great loss.

I was ridiculously fortunate (& a fair few quid poorer) to see Paul McCartney at the O2 on Wednesday- & he was superb. Here’s a couple of typically rubbish photos I took…

Many thanks to @waschbaren.bsky.social for including me on his #ReadingFC starter pack. Now picked up few fellow supporters.
The next request is to see more bands and venues on here. I found the early notification of tour dates & pre-sale links on the other place really useful
