I've been wondering the same thing. DOGE is not an official entity, and Musk has not been appointed and confirmed by the Senate as the head of an agency. He has no legal authority. Therefore, the entire country should sue him for breaking and entering, theft, etc. (and strip him naked.)

This is precisely why the likes of Musk want to dismantle it. One of the goals is to reduce American influence around the world, something that's high on Putin's wish list. Remember, Musk does not actually work for the United States. He's barely American.
