Let's be very clear that one of the major effects of the CDC no longer recommending various vaccinations is that it becomes much harder for folks who still want to be—or want their children to be—vaccinated to get their insurance providers to cover those vaccinations.

Vaccines are the greatest public health success story in history.

So much death and suffering can be stopped entirely, or dramatically reduced.

And people are just throwing it away.

My youngest's elementary school collected over 2,000 pounds of canned goods for the community this month. It was a phenomenal site to see and an amazing contribution to the food cupboard. This was more than the total last year for the entire year.

I'm here in Washington working with my Democratic colleagues to protect healthcare for every American, but Republicans refuse to meet with us.

I decided to attend Speaker Johnson’s press conference today to speak to him.

SNAP *is* the safety net. it’s not just another benefit or program, as some wonks have framed it. if republicans don’t follow the law, this will — not could, will — turn into a humanitarian disaster like nothing we’ve seen in my lifetime. this can get lost in the policyspeak.

Sure big city mayors (helloooo Minneapolis and also the city they call “big east coast Minneapolis”) and off year states (hellloooo Virginia!) and props and stuff are bigger. But vote for school boards. Local really matters.

When people say racism is expensive, this is why. There are people out there who will sacrifice the health and well being of the entire country, including their own, just to spite those they feel don't deserve it. Usually Black and brown people.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Friends groups can have amazing benefits, too! My local library waives all fines for friends, has special events for friends, and perks like a free tickets to special events.
