Grading papers while simultaneously listening to the music of the artists students wrote about is just another way of making the process a little bit more fun. So far I have listened to Tracy Chapman, Chappell Roan, Betty Davis, Fiona Apple, and NIN, all whom I haven’t listened to in such a long ⏰

The paradox of songs being recorded by someone yet not composed by anyone, with copyright laws still applying.
I, a Black folk musician, had to give the Lomaxes songwriter credits and pay the estate $1500 to use fragments of songs they did not write or personally perform on my last album. Months later, I am citing one of his recordings in a paper, and the only attribution he offers is to "Unidentified men"
