I would say cascadia or list them. Referring to it as one region is definitely more common in America though. Similar to if I was talking about someone from the prairies, I wouldn't mean America even though the bioregion extends south.

I think the point is that sometimes it is used by Americans but most British Columbians don't identify with it. It's really not that big a deal to be fair, so I don't Blame you for not knowing.

There isn't anything north about Victoria either, so it doesn't really make sense. In BC you could also identify with the lower mainland, interior, North/South Island, Kootenays and more. The regional districts are pretty accurate imo as far as cultural/identity differences go.

Cascadia is sometimes used in BC, it's almost always in reference to the bioregion though. People here would say they're from BC, then the west coast, then Vancouver Island. So the west coast identity is most common.

Yeah pnw is American. It's mostly Americans who include Vancouver in it in my experience. I'd never refer to the west coast as the pnw.

Pretty sure we were very close to doing it in Surrey, but didn't for similar reasons to why Toronto's streetcars are bad. But it's not directly because of them. While I get your point, comparing Toronto to the rest of Canada will annoy every Canadian.

Yeah your right, better to just move on

BC rail was also privatised in the early 2000s, not sure how directly it's related to this but it was a major scandal at the time. Pretty sure the line is still open and just seldom used.

If you think that proves anything you need to work on reading comprehension and statistics. The average quality (standard) is higher in Canada.

I can easily cherry pick 15 cities in western Canada with good urbanism. The original comment mentioned standards of urbanism. You gave your top 15 cities in America for urbanism. We are talking about standards, which includes all cities.
November 17, 2025 at 12:07 AM
There are 15 cities in Canada with a metro population higher than 400k. America has over 130. Canadian cities are smaller and have higher standards of urbanism.

We really need more regional rail in BC. Can't wait to see more of the BC videos, glad you enjoyed your trip out here.

Well Kitchener-Waterloo's iON seems like the obvious one, hopefully they can extend to Cambridge soon. As for cities that need one definitely Victoria, Quebec city, Halifax and Winnipeg.

Which city?

The bike network is also fantastic.

A lot has changed even in the last few years, so much is being built. Most of it's been good and it's probably mostly nostalgia but I did like the old bridge better. The E&N is sorely missed though.

The music might have been Canadian or American, but the cowboy and rodeo frontier culture exists in all of western Canada. Especially Alberta.
This is probably my favorite Albertan country song:

Good luck! I'm excited to see you in western Canada especially BC, my home province. The Rockies are famous for a reason but the rest of the province is also beautiful and diverse. Enjoy!

Anything in Alberta. Lethbridge to Calgary and Edmonton or Calgary to Banff would be a good start.

Even if you don't actually hate men, a lot of loud people online say it and a larger group are silent. With enough sound bites and leftist stereotypes it was very easy to convince me that leftists hate men.
May 3, 2025 at 12:17 AM
This attitude is why I (a young white man) leaned right for so long. Leftists seemed to hate me and right wingers were always telling me how I can better my life. I've gone through some character development and no longer see it this way, but I know many people who don't.

Summer is great because you get more daylight for the views. Definitely take the VIA Rail Canadian if you can, unfortunately it's pretty expensive.
