There are so many circumstances of art vs. the artist in the world, and the modern money machine makes it more complicated. But also, shaming people for enjoying art can be a slippery slope as well. We just live in a world that allows for more nuance.

I feel like it just depends on what it is that you're doing and how it perpetuates the industry. It's okay for you to reread a book that you already own from your childhood that brings you joy, as long as you aren't hyping up the franchise or putting any money into it.

Boycotting really works when people care enough to do it. I think you can even quietly enjoy the franchise as a special interest as long as you aren't feeding the giant capitalism machine that is HP merch/streaming media.
