Upon pulling out, cities will be left with poor regional connectivity, slow and unreliable on-demand services, and years of debt with nothing to show for it other than a handful of abandoned train stations. We cannot allow this to happen — be prepared to vote to stay in DART next May!

Cities are proposing to replace reliable public transit services with citywide on-demand services. These services, like Arlington On Demand, will be underfunded, overwhelmed, and inefficient. This will worsen mobility and access in any affected city.

Texas law holds that cities that pull out of DART are responsible for a portion of DART's debts. It may take up to a decade for cities to be able use the money currently collected by DART to fund their own services or for economic development, while getting nothing in return.

However, the DART board has decided some time ago that it will not provide Light Rail service to cities which are not DART members. This means that Light Rail stations in Irving, Farmers Branch, and Plano would close permanently unless the DART board reverses its policy.

If a city leaves DART, Texas law requires DART to immediately suspend DART services within that city. Afterwards, cities may fund their own transportation services, including paying DART for bus, Silver Line, or TRE services. (This model is seen on the suburban sections of Trinity Metro's TEXRail.)
