Black Bag is a pretty good spy movie. No big action scenes, just a lot of craft work, surveillance and character dynamics. But I fear Cate Blanchett is getting dangerously close to Nicole Kidman levels of facial flatness from cosmetic procedures.

The modern controls for the Onimusha 1 Remaster really make the game a breeze. It was a short game to start but I got through in under three hours. And you know what, it was a fun time. This was the series at its most Resi clone-ish, still hoping 3 & 4 get remastered.

Silent Hill The Short Message...thank god it was free. Frustrating maze chase sequences with an unkillable pursuer are the only gameplay besides walking around environments. Monster is interesting but good luck getting a look at it in-game. Heavy themes but not enough time to examine properly.

No Straight Roads is a fun distraction, if only to see a very Malaysian spin on character design. Pictured below, a stage mom puppeteering her piano prodigy kid. It's basically light platforming but the meat of the game is a series of arena boss battles. Occasionally obnoxiously 'indie' though

Sonic X Shadow Generations...boy, this was SHORT. I know half the fun is in doing all the challenge gates but I am not doing that nonsense. The new Shadow section is a very interesting peek into how future Sonic games might go. I certainly had a lot less frustrating leaps off into off screen pits

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is the last of the cheesy action Resis before the 7 revamp. Half the game is playing the previous level in reverse with new textures and enemies, which bores fast. Shame we'll never hear more about the dangling plot threads of the villain technically winning.

Cocoon is a nice little puzzle game. Basically layering worlds upon worlds where each world has a different effect within the others. Think of it like a dimensional matryoshka doll. Don't ask me what the story was though, this is very much a runs-on-vibes game. Managed about 80% of it without help

Panzer Dragoon Remake is...wow, were games really only 2 hours long back then? It looks ok enough but some of that sense of a decaying world is lost. Some finicky lock-on too. I remember playing the demo for Zwei constantly, and I remember that being way better than this entire remake of 1 was

Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is just entirely a nostalgia fest for the original Power Rangers show. But the animation isn't great, and it commits the cardinal sides rolling beat-em-up sin of having every character play exactly the same as each other. Don't bother.

The Brutalist is a looooong film but it's engaging enough. But I could have done with more time on the dysfunction and moral rot of Guy Pearce's family. He's just a lot more interesting than another misunderstood tortured genius trope of a main character, and that epilogue kind of added nothing

Resident Evil Revelations is from that weird 2007-14 period where Capcom was chasing that western CoD money, so the characters are a mix of tactical nonsense and...whatever the fuck that swimsuit is. Fun enough, bitesize levels, but it's 3DS origins mean its aged terribly.

As a kid in the 90s, these and Horrible Histories were both my main reason to go to the library and why I have tonnes of useless trivia instead of a cohesive personality

My mother has become one of those "who are you smiling at on the phone, is it a boy?" mothers since I came out, and I don't have the heart to tell her that it was this sticker

The Phoenician Scheme is typical Wes Andersen, with maybe a little more violence than usual. His casts are always crazy good but so many have so little to do. I think this is where we part ways unless anything gets Grand Budapest-level rave reviews. Interesting to see Michael Cera reappear though.

Succession was...ooof, I've never seen much where I hated absolutely everyone in it. Especially that finale, watching Shiv spectacularly blow things at the final hurdle. Ironically the most outwardly vile of them all, Roman, seems to be the only one capable of genuine emotion and self-awareness.

Short guys learn how to cheat height perspective pretty quickly for their dating profile pics. Well, I say cheat, Theo calls it "plausible deniability".
