You know the deal. This is tomorrow's Hunter Black page, available today if you subscribe through Patreon. It's only two bucks a month and it helps keep indie comics going.

Do you really want to wait for tomorrow to find out what "Outside Ground Zero" means?

If you need to know who or what the blue blur in this image is, you really need to catch up on your #HunterBlack. If you DO know, please consider becoming a Patron. For two bucks a month, you'd already know what's going on.

The blurred image you see below is tomorrow's #HunterBlackComics page. If you gave
@mrorr.bsky.social and me two bucks a month through Patreon, you'd have this page already -- and you'd get EVERY page a day early.

Wouldn't that be nice?

It does still come up when you search on Amazon, at least for me. But it says you only have 25 5-star reviews. (And I have to click through to see that.)

LOVE YOU TO DEATH, from Byron Gray, @patriciavilletto.bsky.social, and ya boy, is coming soon! We're racing to finish so we can put this #comic in your grubby little hands!

COMING SOON from Byron Gray, @patriciavilletto.bsky.social, and your boy. Check out the LinkTree in my bio for more information!

Is death cold? Or can it be...hot? "Steamy," even?

We're still not ready to announce what Byron Gray, @patriciavilletto.bsky.social, and I have been working on -- but it's not what you think.

(Man, I love comics!)

Going forward, I'll be working more with my partners in Massive Chaos, Inc., developing new projects for animation and comics. We're fortunate to be building what I think is a good reputation in the industry, and we're always looking for the next thing to sink our teeth into!

Cartoons have replaced comics as my medium of choice. Everyone's writing path is different but I've found it easier to make inroads in animation than comics (and the pay is significantly better). I still plan to write lots and lots of comics before I'm through, but animation is where it's at.

Animation lets me indulge my passion for genre in a way that neither comics nor live-action do. I like to see my ideas with dynamic, evocative visuals -- even the strictest editorial environments have given me a lot of freedom. In order to think outside of the box, you must first have a box.

Despite the recent publication of my first book and 14 years publishing a webcomic, when I think of writing these days, animation's the first thing that comes to mind. Sonic Prime was my last produced work, for which I wrote three episodes, but I'm under contract developing a new show right now.

Will and I have been putting out Hunter Black for fourteen years now and maybe, just maybe, the end is in sight (but still a long ways off).

But what happens when he starts to form relationships along the way? Is his new chosen family enough to give a dying man something to live for...or will he be betrayed once again?
July 3, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Hunter is a criminal, a former assassin-for-hire, who was betrayed by his clients and now scours the Known World for their identities...and a little payback. Unfortunately, he's dying from the wasting disease known as the Hunter Blight, with only his magic sword -- the Revenger -- to sustain him.

Any discussion of me as a writer has to begin with my biggest and most ambitious work: Hunter Black. (Link at the end of this🧵.) Along with my partner William Orr, I wanted to make a story that combined two of my favorite genres (there's that word again): swords and sorcery fantasy and film noir.

So...this video really highlights what Byron Gray's process is on this #graphicnovel project -- and says almost nothing at all about what @patriciavilletto.bsky.social and I bring to the table. (Script pages are boring, though.)

As for what this project is...well, we'll tell you eventually!

"What's Justin doing next?" This is what you ask yourself as you put down your copy of Fantastic Four For Dummies.

I'm not going to tell you, but I'm doing it with some amazing partners like Byron Gray and @patriciavilletto.bsky.social!

Announcements to come!

If you happen to be one of those paragons of virtue that picked up a copy of Fantastic Four For Dummies, please remember that a review on Amazon or Goodreads does wonders for our visibility, which is especially key in the lead up to the movie in a few short weeks.

Tell 'em how I did!

I think these are the movies I most enjoyed in the 21st century so far. I couldn't bring myself to have more than one Pixar film, but Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 tempted me sorely, as did American Fiction, The Royal Tannenbaums, In Bruges, Get Out, and others.
