November’s early darkness enfolds us. The smell of applewood fires and rot is a constant companion at twilight. We hurry between home and evensong, home and pub. Ghosts crowd the lanes, our folklore becomes filled with tales of cold teeth. Winter begins to growl. - #CLNolan

The fact of the matter is that helping people costs money and that is just not popular with corporations that, for all practical purposes, own a vast number of congresspersons.

Whether you’re a fan of Hallowe’en or not, you have to give it credit for being the last line of defence against Christmas advancing even earlier into the year, a ragtag gang of goths holding the line against a battalion of baubled barbarians

It's Halloween month — and it's also #AmericanArchivesMonth, so it's only right that we bring you a ghost story from 1972.

Bill Crabtree and the Clinch Valley Boys perform a song about a hitchhiker's ghostly encounter with "Big Josie," animated by Glenn Palumbo's drawings.

Stately homes, pubs and theatres have commodified their phantoms. Turned them into neat little stories, spectre-magnets to draw in visitors with ache for ghost-glimpse. Then there are the places where shades and their stories are feral. Unowned, uncurated spots. I hold to these. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

Cancel Christmas aka Blackout Black Friday is gaining steam fast as Americans stare at the reality of fascism and the poverty it brings with it. Families torn apart by ICE have already had their holidays cancelled without choice.

you love to see it ❤️
Epically beautiful and also a bit scary and heartbreaking. We are on the precipice now of revolution or dictatorship. Those are the only jump offs. America largely made their choice today.

Already there are mass calls to cancel Christmas. A national grab your wallet, fuck the corps. It could work.

The word MEANDER comes from Maiandros, the Greek name for a winding river in Turkey.

Over time this word has meant: confusion, to wander aimlessly, a winding passage.

I love it, b/c the river & the word make me think of a dotty old man's path as he wanders around the house looking for his keys.

Sure a ring is nice, but pie!
Ireland, special sweet pies were baked for Michaelmas, and was traditional to hide a ring in one. To find a ring in Michaelmas pie was a sign of good fortune, or a ring in your Michaelmas pie was also a sign you would be wed in the coming year. #Folklore

I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year.

The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.
