My new statement: "I acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Kwantlen and other Coast Salish peoples, whom I firmly believe should be given their land back, and am fortunate and grateful to be able to make a life here. " I'll edit it if I get good suggestions!

I understand if the whole thing seems performative. But at the very least if it's going to be performed it should be done as fully as possible, for the record. At the very least. And then hopefully someday the purpose of these acknowledgements and intentions might become realized.

In my mind, acknowledgment is just the first step- otherwise what's the point? I believe these statements without support for the Land Back movement are meaningless lip service, and including "Land Back" terms to these statements should be normalized.
