The Stags Head Inn in Lelley was the venue last week for the launch of Richard Lusmore's new book 'Special Attraction', and Hull City Kits were there to hear Lusmore and guest Alan Fettis recount supporting/playing for City in the early 90s, and we had some matchworn shirts on display for added colour. A fine evening was had by an assemblage of Tiger Nationals old enough to have endured supporting City through the final years of the 20th century and psychologically battle scarred from the experience, with Absolute Radio 80s DJ and one-time Amber Nectar podcast host Matt Rudd mastering ceremonies.

32 years ago this past week, City played 18 minutes of a First Round FA Cup tie in a game that would not be concluded, stopped by the collapse of a wall that endangered supporters. Don Robinson has passed, and a club’s fanbase mourns. The man is a real giant in Hull City’s history, almost anything good you can think of that happened in the 1980s can be traced back to him and his flair for showmanship. Larger than life long before he became involved in Hull City: the wrestling career, the rugby career, the ownership of zoos and aquariums, essentially inventing dental tourism, he was a forward thinker and a left-field thinker.

Wing-half Brian Bulless played his entire professional career with the Tigers, making 326 league appearances between 1953 to 1964. Injury robbed him of the chance to play beyond 31, so City showed their appreciation with a testimonial. City faced an 'All-Star XI' on Tuesday 27th April 1965, three days after the conclusion of the 1964/65 campaign. The Tigers all-amber 1964/65 kit was not well received by supporters, readers writing in to the Hull Daily Mail disparagingly called it the 'banana kit', saving specific ire for the 'custard coloured shorts', which led to the kit being retired after just one season.

Oli McBurnie fell victim to a letterset malfunction in Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie at Wrexham, as his small c fell off the back of his shirt at some point of the game. Word round the campfire is the small c was from an older letterset batch, and the adhesive has degraded over time.

Two weeks after the launch of the 2025/26 Primary shirt (which I rather like despite it being solid amber rather than stripes and featuring tiger stripes which I think we’re using too much and running the risk of being gimmicky and pastiche – Review here), Kappa and the Tigers have pulled the curtain back on the away shirt for the upcoming season, and my response can be summarised with… “OOOOOOOOOOOOFFF!”

The 2025/26 Primary shirt by Kappa was revealed just hours before it's on-pitch debut against İstanbulspor at the Turkish Football Federation's training base on Tuesday. After three consecutive seasons in traditional stripes, the latest entry into City's shirt pantheon is a fascinating mix of two other recurring styles; solid amber, and tiger stripe '92 throwback. Naturally, the most striking element is the sublimated tiger print, which is confined to the Raglan sleeves, but other details are worthy of note.

Welcome to the Auction Action for June 2025, where for the first time we have a new avenue to explore. The club revealed Hull City Auctions (as part of the Tiger Leisure site) on the 4th June, with item listings beginning the following day. The first 'batch' of items to be auctioned was the match-worn 120th anniversary shirts worn by the Tigers in arguably the home performance of the season, against Cardiff City on 28th September 2024.

Early in May the Tigers brought a pretty wretched season to a close witha 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, which thankfully proved enough to retain our Championship status. The rest of May has been about recalling better years, such as the events of the 24th of May 2008 and the 28th May 2016. But eBay never sleeps, and our gaze upon it's Hull City themed offerings is relentless.

April - the month of fools, chocolate eggs, showers and... shirts? On the pitch April saw the Tigers pick up a valuable points against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Preston North End as they sought to avoid the drop into League One. What was on offer during the last full month of 2024/25? Mike Carter takes us through what went under the virtual hammer in the fourth month...

Somehow we are already a quarter of the way through 2025 - yeah, we don't know how that's happened either! The positive thing about another month being completed is that we have a host of new polyester sales to discuss! February might be short on days, but was it short on available to buy Hull City memorabilia? NOPE! Mikey Carter describes the Auction Action... 'Holy grail' is a term that's been hideously overused in recent years by collectors of everything from trainers to programmes to autographed stickers and trading cards, which of course includes match-worn shirts, to the point where it now seems to mean 'the next thing I want to buy' rather than 'legendary item that almost never becomes available'.

Like manna from heaven, the 2021/22 third kit by Umbro has ‘dropped’. What do the HCK Kitgeeks make of it? @SombreEthyl: As much as I love the away shirt for embracing the black-out trend (and City don’t often dabble in kit trends historically), I love this third shirt so much more for reflecting a bit of City kit heritage, as it clearly takes cues from the 1995-97 away.

January always feels like a long month, but it is firmly in our rear-view mirror now, meaning we can cast our eyes over what City branded cotton and polyester goodness was available and sold under the virtual hammer in the first month of 2025... (writes Mike Carter) It wasn't until the eleventh hour that we had a player specification shirt to bring you, but noted collector and friend of HCK Andrew brought this one to our attention!

In our 120th year, the club have done some wonderful things to mark the club's anniversary, such as the limited run commemorative shirts and jackets which found favour with us. Additionally, there have been some more modest, but no less impactful triumphs of marketing and club history celebration, such as the 'blink and you'll miss it' launch and extremely limited run of themed beers produced in collaboration with estimable local brewers Atom.

2024 is in the history books now, but we still have a bit of business in that year left despite the calendar ticking over to 2025, as we review the most notable online sales of Tiger tat in December 2024 (writes Mike Carter)...  One of the biggest bargains of the year was had with a long sleeved 2008/09 home shirt by Umbro, featuring Dean Marney's surname on the back…
