I am excited to announce that I will be joining the State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning at Beijing Normal University as a professor starting next month. In the Tang lab, we will employ large-scale recordings and optogenetics to investigate the neural circuit mechanisms (1/3)

The most exciting part comes from the network dynamics analysis, which used simultaneously recorded ensembles from four areas. We found that information about token updating flows from the OFC to VS through MDt. I hope you enjoy reading it.
We'd be grateful for your feedback! 😄

We found each area uniquely contributed to encoding token gains and losses. Specifically, the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and mediodorsal thalamus (MDt) encoded gains and losses linearly, the ventral striatum (VS) encoded gains, and the amygdala (AMY) encoded the salience of values.

In this study, monkeys learned to select options that would allow them to gain tokens and avoid options that would cause them to lose tokens.
