Now that we have shut down this distraction, the UK government can get on with its real job: ending ALL new oil and gas and making sure no one gets left behind in the transition.

Public pressure works. We are moving in the right direction - now let’s push this to the finish line.

Put a serious just transition plan in place

The government has committed to considering workers, communities and supply chains in the transition. But the plans themselves are inadequate.

Reject Rosebank and stop ALL new drilling.

The commitment does not prevent fields that already have a licence - like Rosebank and Cambo - from being developed.

The fight against Rosebank is STILL on.

But we need to be clear: these new commitments need to go even further to meet our climate goals and secure a fair future for workers.

Ending new licensing has been a key demand of our movement - including in the petition we submitted to the government with 1 million signatures.

We are finally moving towards energy policy guided by public interest, away from oil and gas bosses ransacking the North Sea for profit.

This is a massive step forward and will keep many millions of barrels of oil and gas in the ground.

The UK is now the first major oil and gas producer in the Global North to shift away from fossil fuels - the kind of leadership needed to drive a global phase-out.
