Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors
Banger of a title. It is so clearly written and the examples illustrate their ideas so compellingly. I read it when I was relatively young and it revealed to me new ways of looking at the world.

The Dragonbone Chair
This, and the following novels in the series, got me fired for fantasy in a big way. I had read CS Lewis, Piers Anthony, and a pile of Dragonlance prior to finding Tad Williams. Not that those are bad, just that the genre got its' hooks into me far deeper with this book.

A Brief History of Science: As Seen Through the Development of Scientific Instruments
Despite a mouthful of a title, the book has a compelling way to present scientific progress including the historical, societal, and interpersonal context of each technology.

Red Dwarf; Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers
Jokey interesting sci-fi with lots of clever ideas, an excellent companion to the show of the same name. Neither the show nor the books displace the other.

Visited a Blackbird long long ago. I stuck my head in the landing gear well, I didn't expect to be able to get that close to such a legendary aircraft.
