Looking at the story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14). Is there any evidence that people going to the Temple prayed aloud where others could hear them?
I always love Jesus' tendency for hyperbole and am wondering if this is another one of those moments. ⚓

For Indigenous People's Day, I remember that I grew up on the land of the Easten Band of the Cherokee and live on the ancestral land of the Neusiok and Lumbee people. Grateful for the care they gave to the Earth. I hope we can honor their legacy.

The thing that gets me about the reaction to Bishop Mariann’s sermon is that if (bracketing out the preamble which is address to a specifically US constitutional context - and was studiedly non partisan) you imagine it being preached at a mediaeval court, it would be pretty much exactly the same.
